Not sure why we are going to call this a success, we literally just went from Syndra reroll meta to Zoe reroll meta. Every single lobby is full of Zoe and/or Portal reroll and it's actually just as ridiculous as Syndra reroll meta.

It's under preforming because you need another culprit for match fixing. How can you label it match fixing, "who is he fixing for?" I'm sure he is fixing for somebody BUT there is no proof or evidence of the other party therefore it has to fall into the under preforming category. You're welcome.

This is kinda interesting to me coming from the MTG scene where players will intentionally draw rounds to help other players get into top 8. In magic when you go to a large event usually players go as "teams" even though they compete individually. it is often seen better to have more members get prizes than maybe 1 person winning an event. if they went as a group it could be seen as good team play.

if this is the punishment, there is nothing that will stop poeple. those guyseither make their money from streaming or arent even full time TFT players. its not like 30-50% of prize money makes them unable to pay their bills. so 90% or more will be like "worst case i lose a bit of money, who cares, that sum of money wont change my life in a meanignful way, i might as well try" also, fines have a drastically different results on your life depending on your circumstances, which is why im always an advocat for different punishments. i think these guys deserve a 2nd chance and its tough to punish the guys that profited, unless there are like chats that prove they were communicating. but a solid set or 2 bans from competitive also seems reasonable to me. that way u put something on the line so its actually a risk u dont want to take. sure, then u have people not doing it bc of a threat and not bc they are good people, but these guys are young and a lot of them will notice how important competitive integrity is and wont do it again if the punishment keeps them from doing it for a few sets.

This is difficult to evaluate. When you’re in a tournament, you got to the tournament because you are good in the first place. And once you are now in the tournament, you can decide what to do. If you want to intentionally lose, then it’s your right to do so, nobody forces you to play in a certain way. It is also your right to help others win* if and only if there is no bribing/corruption happening. Thus, underperformance is the correct term in this case because there is a rule that you have to TRY to compete but there is no rule that you can’t grief other players or help them win nor there is no rule that states that you can’t make mistakes and even though you are clearly making amateur misplays in this case that can give advantage to another player, the fact that you are still competing with the other 6 players and win/lose at least some rounds against them (depends) is enough to justify that you are «trying» at least from a legal point of view. Does this ruin the competitive integrity of the game? - yes. But is this prohibited? - no, you are clearly not playing for a first but on the other hand you are trying. So thats why its difficult to judge, on one hand you clearly didn’t play for top1 on the other hand you can then justifiably say that about any player who makes risks or tries to play unconventional comps which there are plenty in any lobby. Now i’ve been part of multiple tournaments including regional qualifiers from RU and i can tell you that this isn’t the worst you will see. Even people covering tournaments from riot admit this that the tournament favorites from RU get griefed by the underdogs too much and thus they almost never make it out to worlds. Like you would see players just sacking all their gold on their bench to buy out all the units that someone who is expected to win is trying to roll for and then inevitably going bot 4 just because they have 40 gold of units on bench that don’t fit their comp. And apparently its all the same in china. Its a shame that these things don’t get brought up in the west because twitter/reddit is banned there and thats where most information resides. But of course as for my opinion, nobody should be fined if there was no proven collusion between the players, this is a tournament and its your right to try hard and win or to lose but let somebody else win. Also there is just too many ways to help or grief someone in the game (taking important items from carousel, contesting other players, playing comps that don’t scale etc) that it doesn’t mean that if one person gets caught it hasn’t happened before. The problem is that the prize pools and prestige of winning are not incentivizing competition. 150k is great but not lifechanging money, in fact its laughable considering the fact that ever since set 6 players competing for world cup have been paid tenfold by sponsors (not to mention that some players are signed to esport team contracts xd)

My dude, there is literally money on the line, helping others win that you are supposed to be playing to win against defrauds other competitors from a fair chance at the prize pool. There is a rule against match fixing. Match fixing is when you intentionally underperform to gain a certain outcome. Usually done for gaming a betting system but in this case directly for prize money. Not only is this against the rules, it is illegal in most countries.

Underperformance seems like it is just a legal thing. If they actually penalized him for cheating they would need hard evidence and even though every TFT player can see that this is basically matchfixing it is still mostly circumstantial. Nobody can prove what his intentions were 100% even if it seems obvious, but they don't have to prove the fact that he underperformed as that is factually true
@FrostkingTCG
@FrostkingTCG 2 күн бұрын
Obviously looks like match fixing but unless you can 100% prove with certainty that its match fixing you cant fine for it or theres legal action that could be taken against riot its probably not that they wanted to fine him for underperformance but they wanted to hit him with something and that was the only thing that fit without leaving them liable

Yes, of course Riot punishes in-game misbehavior much more lightly than naughty words. Riot *loves* punishing naughty words, but they don't want to do anything about in-game behavior. Only when it's absolutely egregious will they feel they have to do something, and then they'll do the least possible. This isn't as obvious in TFT where you don't (usually) have teammates, but it's still the same Riot that made LoL.
@Scheater1337
@Scheater1337 2 күн бұрын
Imo the punishment by Riot would have been fine if they actually applied same punishment at any instance of this. So do it twice, and the warning becomes a time-ban. Thrice, and maybe even perma. But instead, they don't do anything until it gets absolutely obvious - and then they go for the light punishment. So what they are telling players is essentially: Don't be too obvious, and you can keep going.

I think the reason riot use the word "underperformance" is that it's hard to judge player's intention. One could always argue "I wasn't trying to match fixing I'm just nervous so I misplayed", and it's hard to prove that no matter how "obvious" the situation is, so riot just went with what they can confirm: "I guess you're just bad, and you're not allowed to be bad at the TOP level tournament"

@Scheater1337 2 күн бұрын
If you just randomly happen to weaken your board by selling the unit someone else is planning to roll for (future!) or not level to 6 when you'd be at max interest with a 2-cost reroll board - that is not the same as you playing a meme comp in last game for the lulz. Latter one is the actual "underperformance". First one is just plain game manipulation. Keep in mind, those are TFT pros. If this many "accidential bad plays" happen, it should be classified as intentional. Even on autopilot, this doesn't happen.

@@Scheater1337 You still need to prove in some way that he did it to specifically let the other dude win, which without proof is conjecture, which is why they stated it as underperformance. As logical as your conjecture is, it's still conjecture until you have solid and substantial proof.
@Scheater1337
@Scheater1337 2 күн бұрын
@@HollowR1130 That's the fun thing: they don't. This is not a court with in-dubio-pro-re. To begin with, the only practical difference between "game manipulation" and "underperformance" is whether a griefing behaviour is tasrgeted or not, and for that, you can easily just check the VODs. Riot can simply declare that this sort of amassed behaviour will be seen as intentional, and that anyone who plays in tournaments should be aware to not just "randomly" help or grief players.

u can be bad, i had some very lucky tournament runs myself and was so much worse than everyone else in the next stage, but that is fine. underperformance means not giving it your best efforts. so if u are tilted from bad results in the tournament and u play troll comps while not focusing on the game, thats underperforming, intentionally playing worse while just thinking about yourself and not how to make it harder or easier for others. but i totally agree, they probably worded it that way bc they couldnt confirm it 100% and for such a big company u have to be 100% sure, bc false positives would be really bad. u rather have more false negative. imagine being banned or fined for something u didnt do, that would be outrageous. u rather underpunish someone from time to time but still give them a slap on the wrist, than the other way round.

Imo the way they treated Setsuko is quite severe as compared to A Hao Ei. Yes, professionalism should be present during competitions, especially so for Tactician's Crown being the 'Worlds' of TFT. However, for simply typing the curse word that almost everybody has said or thought of AND NOT EVEN SENDING IT should just receive a warning. Worsening the game's integrity, on the other hand, should be dealt with more seriously, and therefore A Hao Ei should be fined or at least banned from participating in similar events for a limited time period. Think about it simply - it's a competition on/about a game that depends on both skill and luck, but mostly on how you increase your odds/luck for your benefit. To alter such odds to make it more beneficial for others and less for yourself is BLATANT CHEATING.

The problem is that if you set the bar too low for underperformance then it becomes a slippery slope. For example, using your rift example. League of all games rides a very thin line between trolling and strategy. What could be tried as a strategy with genuine intent may look troll when met with actual competitive response. I think you have to be very careful with these kinds of things.
