I'm in a hospital today, August 19th, 2024. I ended up in the er on Friday cause of low blood pressure and bleeding. They have me on a liquid diet, I'm guessing, having a colonoscopy again. I had one done 4 months ago, and they found diverticulosis and hemorrhoids but now I've been bleeding for a few weeks so I've been loosing a lot of blood. I'm new to all of this and the doctors know very little about this

Understandably sugar intake is something to limit and control, but is it worth pointing out the "added sugar" contents vs the sugar that comes naturally from whole fruit and fruit juice? I enjoy teas and other drinks that'll usually use fruit juice as sweeteners. On top of eating fruit in general.

I have diverticulitis . I didn’t know about it. Then, one night, I was in severe pain. In my colon. I had a. Small growth in the area that became inflamed,. So it blocked my colon from getting rid of wastes. I had sharp pain . Then I was Abe to go ani went and I went a lot. I had stomach and colon and I had a little piece of food, maybe a seed . It was infected and I was dizzy and sickly .I had to stay in the hospital and they gave me IV antibiotics for about a week flareup was gone and I wasn’t sick anymore. Nobody told me about the diverticulosis, but I reticulitis Lee Grove was too small for them to cut out like they would call polyps mine was too small to cut out, so they gave me the antibiotics. I was better. It was right at the time when the Coronavirus or a starling I wasn’t afraid of being in the hospital. They have those poor souls in a different part of the building. My sister was afraid to visit me at all because of the Covid. I cried to tell the mix for Covid patients with a rake up the patient don’t have Covid. In 2014, I had a bowel obstruction. I had to have emergency surgery. The doctors never mentioned that I had diverticulosis. Years later, I order different medical records, and I see diverticulosis over and over again in my records. I started having extreme pain on the left sid last week.. Every time my bladder filled, the pain became worse until I relieved my bladder. I went to the hospital, and they told me that I had diverticulosis. The doctor explained that because the bladder and colon are in tmsame area, I feel pain in my bladder. The muscle spasms are horrible. I've been constipated since last week. I thought that I was dying. I don't understand why the doctors don't tell you that you have diverticulosis and that there is a possibility that you may get diverticulitus. I've already had the bowel obstruction. I've had continuous issues with constipation. If the doctors tell patients ahead of time, this would give you a chance to change your eating habits. Corn, peanuts, almonds, popcorn, and beans are all things that I eat frequently.

So this was extremely helpful today! My sister is having an attack the first attack she had to go to the hospital that was released with antibiotic and diet. That was like 6 ,7 months ago . Now today she has woke up with cramping and not feeling good no fever still not feeling good. Definitely going to follow this diet the next few days. But can you tell me what she can take for pain. Over the counter just doesn't do the trick. Should she have a doctor just for situations to monitor her when she does have an attack and maybe get some pain medication when she does get an attack? I've told her I think she needs to have a doctor just to have a doctor for this disease. What do you recommend for pain relief for her? She is using heating pad rest fluids I just wish she wasn't in so much pain. Again your video was excellent very easy to understand just excellent thank you from a concerned sister

@@clinicalchronicles Recent conclusions that seeds, nuts and popcorn are safe for diverticulitis patients to eat are based on only ONE study. (Strate LL, Liu YL, Syngal S, et al. Nut, corn, and popcorn consumption and the incidence of diverticular disease. JAMA. 2008;300:907-914.) I have had diverticulitis for over 25 years and lost 8" of my sigmoid colon to this disease. Every episode I have had of this disease can be traced back to ingesting nuts, either intentionally or unintentionally. I have been symptom-free for over 2 decades after surgery by increasing fiber in my diet and scrupulously avoiding seeds, nuts and popcorn. Last week I had my first diverticulitis infection in over 20 years and I am 100% certain it was caused by eating toffee that contained almonds of which I was unaware at the time. No single study will ever convince me that seeds, nuts and popcorn are safe to eat with this condition. And NO antibiotics for diverticulitis? That's just absurd. Perhaps some flare-ups can be treated without antibiotics if no infection has set up in your colon already, but other cases cannot be remediated without them. My original incidence of diverticulitis was treated with antibiotics, but not enough to completely eradicate the infection. I would relapse weeks after a course of antibiotics and was eventually rushed into emergency surgery when my sigmoid colon became too damaged to save. All because no one ever checked to ensure that the antibiotics had actually stopped the infection. I'm taking Cipro again with this latest attack because it's still the standard of care for this disease and the only way to reverse it's course if the colon is already inflamed and infected. To suggest that they are not needed at all in the treatment of this disease is simply wrong. I will take decades of my own personal experience and volumes of past medical research over the latest "study" or "thinking" about this disease any day.
@clinicalchronicles
@clinicalchronicles 4 ай бұрын
In no way did I suggest that antibiotics are not needed. There is a time and place for everything. And the same goes for nuts and so on. Your case is unique to you. I am sure there are diverticular disease sufferers who have no issues with nuts - and the examples can go on and on. To say the content which is evidence based is wrong based on your own unique circumstances is not right, as there are others who react differently to different things. I am glad you found what works for you, that is what is most important.
