Does this Kayak take on water easily? How easy is this to paddle? some say it is like paddling a potato.
@SimplyReelTV5 ай бұрын
I have never had trouble paddling this kayak. It does take on water if you get into white cap waves. The water comes right over the front and into the cockpit when the waves are high enough.

How do you decide which to keep?
@SimplyReelTV7 ай бұрын
Normally I like to keep the biggest ones. If one seems small I’ll put it back in hopes of landing something bigger on the next cast. It often depends on the fishing regulations though. If i had a live well I could trade the smaller ones for the big ones, but since I’m using a stringer i throw them back once my stringer holds my limit.

Where did you get that kayak dolly?
@SimplyReelTV7 ай бұрын
Hi Kyle. I picked up that cart from Cabela’s. It is the Ascend sit-on-Top Kayak cart. I found that the airless tires were very handy. I did have to drill an extra hole to get it to fit the scupper width on my 128T kayak.

Have ya used it many times now to know if it holds up - Im thinking about buying one myself --
@SimplyReelTV Жыл бұрын
I have used it several times. It still sets up easily and is very durable. I still love it for the thermal efficiency and quality. My dad bought the gray JMX400 version. It is the same hub but has gray colored material which lets more light into the hub through the walls. If I were in the market for a new hub shelter I would get the JMX400 style. It is easier to see when you need to tie on a jig, or find your gear, and it still has the awesome thermal properties.

Picked up a used one and the guy threw in a small trollong motor for $400, was that a good deal ?
@SimplyReelTV Жыл бұрын
If you can figure out how to mount the motor it is a fantastic idea. I thought about putting a motor on mine. There are lots of videos on KZbin where guys have mounted motors to their ascend 128’s. I upgraded to the old town 120AP. Kayaking with a trolling motor is definitely a game changer, especially if you fish from the kayak. Hope you have fun with your kayak, I still have mine.

They need a backup power option since there are some times when its not windy when you want to ice fish. Maybe a solar generator and a huge garage fan would help! 🌬️

can you spin the seat while sitting
@SimplyReelTV2 жыл бұрын
That is not an option on the Old Town Sportsman. You can stand up and kneel on the seat to reach things in the back. The seat on my Ascend 128 kayak does spin around while sitting on it though.

When I made this video the frozen reservoirs near me were just starting to melt off. There wasn't enough open water to fish from shore and the ice was too slushy for ice fishing.
@thegoodlifetherapycentre53184 жыл бұрын
is it super hard to but it on top of your car rack and is it very hard to make this kayak move in the water without any mods or no
@SimplyReelTV4 жыл бұрын
It is difficult to load on top of an SUV by myself. I found some KZbin videos where you can use the kayak dolly upside down to help guide it onto the roof rack. I tried that a few times but it is still pretty hard to do by myself. I have resorted to hauling it with my cargo trailer which makes it very easy to load and unload. I don't have any trouble getting it to move in the water. The only challenge I have had is when the wind kicks up and I have to paddle into the wind. That is a good workout! If I were to get another Kayak I would pick up a 10' sit on top. It would be way more manageable for the times when I am on a solo trip.

Something is wrong with your blades or that ice is extremely dirty ice! No way it should take you that long to cut a hole with that drill.
@SimplyReelTV5 жыл бұрын
To be honest I think it was mostly operator error. Those were the first holes I have ever drilled through ice. I got lots of practice and it went faster on the following trip.
@fishinjoe98485 жыл бұрын
Good to hear! I just got the same auger, it cuts thru ice like butter. Takes some getting use to rotating both hands when drilling. Think you'll enjoy it for a long time, just remember you don't need to use down pressure when using them and don't bang the blades on the ice.
@SimplyReelTV5 жыл бұрын
@@fishinjoe9848 Thanks Joe. I have used it a few more times since this video and am starting to get the hang of it. Using the drill gives me a tendency to want to push down on it. I'll take head to your suggestion. This auger really gets the job done!
