They are going to be a hex blade warlock and phantom rogue. The Forgotten Realms wiki has different information. Ex - King Bres instead of King Thrumbolg. And the Court of Stars is ruled by Queen Morwen of the Eldarian, not Titania (Queen of the Seelie Fey, Summer Court). Is your information strictly for 4e D&D?
@DumpStat3 ай бұрын
Its not strictly 4th edition, but 4th edition does have more (setting agnostic) information (and created the Feywild). I dont typically look at the Forgotten Realms unless it is the only source on the matter (because not everyone runs in the Forgotten Realms). I dont know what sources the wiki is using for that, but this was also oeiginally written several years ago before 5e had much information available.

I too am annoyed when people just grab things from the internet and use it without sharing where they found it or who did it. We dont own the art, so it only makes sense to share where we got it and give credit (when we can) to the original artists who made it possible.

In the Fifth Edition, I like the way Orcus has become the conceptual embodiment of Despondency, sloth and despair. He hates life because it's noisy and full of pain. He hates the gods, because they maintain the existence of this life and force the living to undergo trials. He takes advantage of the despair of people whose loved ones were not resurrected according to some "higher principles" incomprehensible to mortals. On top of that, he's also lazy and fat. Seriously. In general, he became very interesting precisely when he was made more philosophical, as befits a being from the Outer Planes. One of the few things 5e did right.

Bot gith factions hate ghaik but one is more determined on the war effort where their society has broken down into a war culture based on endless warfare with the ghaik till extinction.

I came across your channel by pure chance (salute to the dark lord of the algorithm). I chose to introduce the Raven Queen into my Greyhawk setting. For what? I’m a nerd about mythologies and religions. Some Greyhawk gods were created with tongue in cheek. (Pholtus and St Cuthbert), but they’re explainable. It’s the behavior of the faithful that amuses. Nerull wasn’t explainable, death considered evil is a modern concept. Utterly evil god of death isn't found in any mythology (if you have found one, please tell me). All death gods have positive domains. We cannot find in all mythologies an evil death god. So Nerull in Greyhawk was irksome. However with the 4th edition of Raven Queen my problem was solved and the gothic Shadar-Kai are cool! A consistent death deity is neutral, feared but neutral. I want to add that freeing souls don’t infer that they’re eaten or destroyed…
@DumpStat7 ай бұрын
I believe in 4e, it is referenced that souls are destroyed when used as power (why some deities were very against it). But also, in 2e's placescape - souls would be "absorbed" when a petitioner became filly aligned with the plane and, while no one really knew what happened, it was theorized that the soul became part of the plane and its energy. Perhaps thats the same thing as being freed as well, but you are forcing souls to be matched into alignment of the diety or plane

Yeah, a really good and well researched video. I've looked at a lot lately, and while non (this one included) includes all the ideas and concepts that I think belongs in the feywild (both in official lore and thematically) you can definitely see who have gone the extra mile. And this video has. I can also mention a few others that's worth looking at that covers things not here. Usually more thematic stuff then lore, although occasionally there's little bits of lore that they have that's not here too. But there's very little of that (lore) missing here that I can see.

a lovely unique twist I love these races! but there is one thing...I don't know if anyone else does this but when I meet a new word i try out several pronunciations, with this word knowing that it was a fabricated race/word I felt free to explore and as it turns out I ended up settling on genasi pronounced JEH-nuh-sigh with the emphasis on the first syllable and the last syllable rhyming with "eye". I have since been disabused if this mispronunciation and I am painfully aware that the word's proper pronunciation is jeh-NAH-zee. and thus my query sparking dilemma What do you do if you like YOUR pronunciation better but you find the endless correction tedious and irksome??
@DumpStat9 ай бұрын
Well - it's your table (and maybe even your setting), you pronounce it how you like it. Tim Kask (creator of the bulette) gets upset when people try to tell him that he pronounces it wrong (its pronounced boo-lay, not boo-let), but I don't know that I've ever seen any official pronunciation for genasi. It's just how I thought to pronounce it and how everyone around me pronounced it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hn6koYqlf5eHi6c

At first I didn't like the Neogi, they just felt like less interesting Mindflayer. Then I decided to move away from the mind control aspect and focus on the hyper capitalism aspect. Now to me the Neogi are the ultimate evil mega corporation. No one likes them but too many people rely on them because they genuinely have the best products for the most competitive prices. So I entice my players with a Neogi shop and cool items like a grappling gun, hybrid effect potions, and automatic ship repair automata. And the more the players spend on the shop the more control the Neogi shop owner has over the aria. And the friendlier the players get with the shop owner, the more likely it is to offer them a job. Not mind control, this is a job that slaves are too weak minded to do. (and can be too easily traced back to the Neogi in question.)

@@DumpStat The way I see it. Neogi: lawful evil empire. Mindflayers: Neutral evil empire, we all know how mindflayers work. But they've got a cival war going on between rules as written traditionalists, and unpredictable homebrew radicles. Beholders: Chaotic evil. Basically Daleks from Dr. who.

Honestly I didn't like the Giff at first, I thought they were just silly. But as I began to plan my own home brew dnd world and set it in the renascence era I found myself referring back to their stat block over and over again for musket and grenade rules. Then as more 5e spell jammer books came out with more Giff entries came out I had an epiphany. The Giff are a space empire, that isn't evil, and aren't another flavor of elves. Now I embrace the Giff they are the rigged lawful bulwark who defends the universe against the forces of the Beholders, Mindflayers, and Neogi. They aren't the kindest, they aren't the easiest to work with, and they certainty aren't cheep, but every one is safer and better off with them around. And I cannot stress this enough, they aren't elves. I swear there's like 12 eleven sub races of them. A third of them lack any real flavor, and another third get way too much attention and lore. It really wouldn't be as bad if the other races like dwarves and orcs got as much attention, but come on why is every 3rd fantasy author an elf simp.

Is any new reason given in Explorer's Guide to Wildemount for how/why the 5e Raven Queen has the domains of Fate & Winter? I like both origins, though 4th Edition's I like better. However, I am curious about the 5th Edition spin on her gaining Fate & Winter domains.
@DumpStat10 ай бұрын
Not as far as I know - but the "Raven Queen" in Critical Role was taken from 4th edition, used in Pathfinder, and then brought into 5th edition all inside the homebrew world of Mercer's. It's bound to have picked up weird things here and there and so I don't really hold anything about the gods in Exandria that 'canon'. With that said, Fate may have been taken from Pathfinder's goddess who oversees death, Pharasma, and the winter element could just be Mercer's imagination about what its like in the plane of shadow, that death is cold, or anything else.

Always loves this race and finally had a chance to play one now. let me say, I don't ever play edgy characters and this is one trying to move beyond it, even though she went through parental abuse (she understands that part of that was her father had a bad encounter with a god that broke his mind). So, yes, she is dark and a bit edgy, but trying to move through that is an interesting character to play..
@DumpStat10 ай бұрын
Edgy done right can make for a very interesting character, unfortunately, it is very easy to play edgy very wrong. So long as everyone remembers it is a team game and to work as a team, edgy characters can be awesome! Of course, a lot of edgy characters can feel like a pizza slicer (all edge, no point). Good luck with your character! Sounds like a good RP challenge.
