Good video, but… As a beginner I am watching this video very carefully and listening to every word that Graham is saying as I’ve never attempted to ring a bell up; the reason is that this video is the only one that I’ve found that describes what the student has to do, given that the teacher is participating also. At 6.24 Graham says “ as your hands are sliding down the rope” … What’s missing in this video, from a student standpoint, is the instruction to the student to slide his/her hands down the rope during the ringing up process. From a beginner’s point of view this is a ‘big picture’ video of a student ringing a bell up but it lacks the minute detail of what the student is required to do at each stage. In relation to the use of coils, I have not yet found a good video that shows their use in both ringing up and ringing down. As a beginner I would like to see videos of both ringing up and ringing down, with coils, in slow motion to enable me to understand what to do. There are several textual descriptions of the use of coils but nowhere can I find a video, in slow motion, of this.

What are the dangers of pulling a rope when the bell is in the up position? Or what are the injuries etc that could happen?

All hell could break loose .... and you could DIE! If you're not a competent bellringer, don't do it!
@Rayn0720128 күн бұрын
Before touching the rope, you should pick up the tail end and hold the tail as though you are going to ring, then if the bell comes off, you are ready to ring normally and control the bell safely. Checking if the bell is down/up, should be done with just a finger and thumb, to see if you can gently rock the bell.

Much admire your training skills Graham. Couldn't have done better myself (lol) Haven't met for some years now- maybe as long ago as the late 50's?

Can someone tell me what would or could happen if someone entered a ringing chamber and pulled on a rope with the bell in the "up" position what dangers or injuries could occur?
@christophersmith55093 жыл бұрын
Usually you take coils when you ring up, if you take coils and realise the bells up, you might not be able to release them quick enough which could pull you up off the ground

Bell sounds awful
@petregh98476 жыл бұрын
Looks/sounds like the bell has been fully muffled, which'll be preventing the clapper from creating the usual rich sound a bell makes. It'll also explain the fact the clapper is bouncing off even though it's up right.
