It is a crime that we can't hear the unreleased albums in 5.1. It kills me every time I hear anything about it. Why can't they find a way?

These vignettes are great ~~ each adds another insight into the best group ever. Thanks Tam.

Fwrank. Lol I need to do this with my bro, The Kim. He's the best storyteller i know. He has a million of them and they are all fascinating.... it's a shame 😔 that i can't fly out to meet him and record like this....

Unfortunately, the masters weren’t safer with Universal if the reports are to be believed about the fire that also destroyed plenty of other assets.

R.I.P. Gus Dudgeon. One of the best producers ever. Very unique, original approach. His work on "Space Oddity", alone, puts him high on my list. When it comes to arranging, one would be hard-pressed to find a better set of ears. And by all accounts, a genuinely nice guy. Thanks for this video, Tam Johnstone! Cheers.

Yep and Gus got absolutely shafted by Elton.

24th June 1974, my old man called in to say hello and left me with a copy of Caribou. It took me a very long time to understand why he did that. Davey has always been one of my personal heroes, along with Elton and Bernie, "Grandad" and Nigel.

I just previewed the Caribou auction yesterday & actually played some of Elton's songs on the Steinway he recorded on for these legendary sessions at this awesome, now defunct studio. So surreal to now listen to Davey talk about the ranch. What a fairy tale that really happened! Go to my page and hear Elton's music on the Caribou Steinway one last time before being sold.

Hey Jeff - was that on Friday, the day before the auction? I think I might have been there - good job! I ended up winning the auction for the Hammond and Leslies. The $90K + $30K for the fee for the 'Bridge Over Troubled Water/Don't Let the Sun' 1910 Steinway B was a bit too rich for my blood (like, by far). Actually, I may have scored _the_ deal of the auction. :)

Joebeardotnet - yes, it was Friday. And thanks. Just wish I would have practiced a little beforehand. Really didn't think they'd let us touch the merchandise like that. Lol. You did score the deal of the auction with the Hammond/Leslie's! Do they work? Are you using them? Just think of all the albums those have contributed to!! Piece of R&R history right there, for an amazing price!

Jeff Van Devender Haha. I was the guy that just played through all notes chromatically on that piano and the Knabe next to it about five minutes before you sat down. I've not hooked them all together as of yet. I've been taking my time in refurbishing them. I've got the tone generator oiled and spinning, replaced the broken keys, and just yesterday finished the rebuild of the amp in the smaller Leslie. I figure I'm about two more weeks out before firing things up.

When in the world are the remaining mixes going to be released? It's very, very frustrating that they haven't yet been. The ones that were released on SACD were excellent.
