Is this the organisation of schools according to Rawls theory?
@EducationStudiesUnpacked2 ай бұрын
In class, you used the Van Dyk and White reading to explain how schools are organised using quintile rankings. We then used Rawls' Principle of Difference to illustrate the effectiveness of quintile rankings and other forms of distributive justice in South Africa.

The structure is still the basic essay structure: Has THREE main parts: 1. Introduction (brief); 2. Body (detailed); and 3. Conclusion (brief) What to include in each part: 1. Introduction: background statement and thesis statement 2. Body: one main idea in each paragraph - use CLAIM, EVIDENCE and REASONING model 3. Conclusion: sum up (no new ideas); link to thesis statement; strong conclusion Under exam conditions, please ensure that your body is more detailed and keep your introduction and conclusion simple and short (but still contain the abovementioned aspects).

You say " A black school in a white suburb" they you say that correspond with " A poor school in a rich suburb" mhhh then you ask us how can we change from the mind of " Whites are superior " to "we are all equal", Mr Hlongwane detect your words before spitting them out
@EducationStudiesUnpacked2 ай бұрын
I get what you are saying, but we cannot be oblivious to issues of white privilege, particularly in the context of South Africa. Also, apartheid has constructed societies such that white is predominantly rich and black is predominantly black. We are NOT equal - we have to get that straight. The essence of this module is to actually uncover these inequalities!

is class biological or social construct sir??
@EducationStudiesUnpacked4 ай бұрын
Class is a social construct. It is determined by wealth (usually economic). So, it is just a societal position, which is not defined by any biological traits (sexual organs, hormones or genes).

sir your presentation is🥵🔥🔥🔥🔥 so gender and non birth-ascribed??
@EducationStudiesUnpacked4 ай бұрын
Thank you, Ayakhula! Keep following! Gender (man, woman, husband, wife, brother, etc.) is a social construct and is linked to roles in society, clothes that people wear, the strength that they have, and many other non-real distinctions. On the other hand, sex (male or female) is biological. What makes a person male or female are biological differences (sexual organs and hormones) and not necessarily differences that society has "agreed to". Let me know if you're getting it...

@EducationStudiesUnpacked4 ай бұрын
Good evening! Unfortunately, I cannot write the essay for you. But I can improve your essay if you try it and give it to me. Also, please check my videos from EST1A on essay writing. I do explain how to unpack the topic, in Tutorials 11 and 12. I will ask Ms. P if she has an old essay I can critique on a KZbin video. I doubt we can find one since we migrated to Moodle this year; all last year's stuff went with Blackboard.

evening sir may please how to I start my introduction for Divala and Mathebula’s work?
@EducationStudiesUnpacked8 ай бұрын
Good morning, dear student. I am not sure what essay you will get on Divala and Mathebula. Remember, this is a very broad reading and you might just be assessed on just one or two aspects/topics in this. But I usually tell students that their introduction, at the first-year level, just needs two things: a background/general statement and a thesis statement/main idea. The background statement(s) is more broad... and then you 'funnel' it into what the essay will be talking about. In summary, give us a background, and then tell us what you will be discussing. I hope this works.

sir what is epistemology ?
@EducationStudiesUnpacked8 ай бұрын
Good evening! Epistemology is the study of knowledge and where it originates. So, by 'refrain from citing epistemology', I meant that you need to be careful that our interest in this module is to study how the CURRICULUM is organised in schools and how it resembles CULTURE. We do not focus our attention on how KNOWLEDGE is constructed and how it originates. I hope this answers you.
@NonhlanhlaNyaosa8 ай бұрын
evening sir. may you please elaborate on what you did in tutorials if you are to mention it rather than "as we did in the tutorial" as some of us are not in your tutorials and this leaves us with clear slates and question marks

Good evening, dear student. Please note that these videos are extensions and revisions of the tutorials that I have already conducted. If I were to re-teach everything that I say in the tut, the videos would be very long. Remember that tut time is twice my videos time. But if there is something that you do not really understand in any of the videos, put a comment there. I will respond. I usually respond in 24 hours or less. Thank you!
