i had eye surgery last year for a retna detatachment 6 weeks after the surgery the dvla sent me a letter and requested me to have a dvla hgv eye test with in 28 days of the letter dated (16th of October) or my licence would be revoked so i had no choice but to take 1 even though my eye was still in the healing process as you can guess i had a letter back dated 14th of January saying my licence had been revoked as i didn,t meet hgv standards now in the letter that i got it explains what the requirements are but are a bit confusing and hope you can shed some light on it it say,s The horizontal visual field should be at least 160 degrees , the extensions should be at least 70 degrees left and right and 30 degrees up and down no defects should be present within a radius of the central 30 degree,s i cant find what a test result looks like or find how this is explained cheers

No one should pay ludicrous money for your GP to do your D4 medical, using these people is far cheaper and just as effective.

Thank you for such a useful video. My HGV license is going to expire on my 55th birthday (24th Nov 2024). I will be abroad for a month before that and won’t be back until the 2nd week of November 24. My queries are: 1. Is form D4 the ONLY form that I and the doctor need to fill out, or are there any additional forms required? 2. How long in advance can I fill D4, do the medical and send the signed (form D4) before my license expires (24/11/24)? Thank you in advance.

I made a couple of single-letter typo errors as I have a long full name. Should I get a new form, or can I use a correction marker like Tipex?

Hi Dan, if the form hasn't already been signed by a doctor then please get a new form. DVLA scan all forms t read them, so this will avoid them not being able to read it properly.

Hii Sir i got a report to fill for my eyes coz I applied for provisional license . I got my eyes checked earlier i have the prescription …. I want to know can i fill the form by myself …. This issue my second time i had to pay again for provisional license coz the time to reply is only 14 days and last time I didn’t get the appointment.. I don’t know anyone who can help me with this… i want to know that i Have to fill report myself? Coz i took it to specs savers they said fill it yourself after one day

If u fail your medical on eye test does the doctor tell you that there and then before sending forms? Do the doctor then send you to your opticians to get your vision tested and then go back for medical?

Hi Mohammad, thanks for your comment. Yes, the medical assessor carrying out your D4 medical will inform you that your vision does not meet the required standards and advise you to visit your optician as you may require an updated prescription. Hope this helps.

The doctor will leave the eyesight page blank. Your optician can then fill in the page when you go for your eye test so there's no need to go back to your doctor. Incidentally, my experience (I've been through 2 medicals for my HGV licence) is that the doctor will usually mark you down as having good vision in both eyes if they are satisfied that your overall vision is up to scratch. At my last medical, the doctor marked me down as having 6/9 (a good bit above the minimum requirement) in both eyes despite me being sceptical that my vision is as good as that in my weaker eye.

Hi there! Question: I read you can’t have lenses in glasses with more than +8 diopters to pass a D4 medical. I do have a lense strength of more than 8 diopters, but I don’t have any eye health issues. Does this mean I can’t ever drive any vehicle over 3.5 tonnes or is there any way it is possible I could drive a heavier vehicle? (I’m not looking to drive commercially and I’m not driving anything as big as an HGV) Thanks
