does this technique still apply to full shots with longer clubs like 9-6 iron? mine typically happen with full 60 degree or 56 degree shots or pitches but it’s not uncommon to happen with longer irons as well.

Exactly what you’re saying. Now it’s turned to a curse for me. No matter what I do. It’s there … every time with my wedges. I bought a chipper to solve it, but then there are problems getting over small obstacles like a bunker or water 😚
@ExplanarGolf3 ай бұрын
The lofted shot is still the option playing over hazards - the key is to keep the clubhead slightly above the plane and cutting across the ball at impact. Problems occur when the forearms roll or over rotate on the backswing.

i think this device prevents the golfer from turning after contact to follow your shot
@ExplanarGolf3 ай бұрын
No, it really doesn’t prevent that at all. That’s why the hoop extends beyond impact. It actually encourages a full follow-through!

I've gone to a stronger grip and I have less issues now.
@ExplanarGolf3 ай бұрын
Yes, the stronger grip reduces the rotation of the forearms on the backswing (which will help avoid the shank), although it can bring some other unwanted elements into play!

It happens to most golfers at some point. Mostly, shanks are caused by over rotating the forearms on the backswing. This video should help.

Wouldn’t the strong diagonal thumb you reference be a weak thumb? I always thought left hand you want thumb down right side of shaft and vice versa for trail hand
@ExplanarGolf Жыл бұрын
Hi Max, thanks for watching. If you listen to the video, you'll see that Luther advocates a "parallel" left thumb that runs just to the right side of the grip. Not sure where you got the 'diagonal' reference from. Thanks

So the rehinge is delayed to keep a more linear down the line swing? That seems to go against previous lessons you've given of rehinging in the impact zone ... confusing to me
@ExplanarGolf Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question. The release and the re-hinge or the wrists take place throughout the entire downswing. The extension through the ball comes as a result of the linear shifting of the weight towards the target. Some players tend to delay the release through impact to hit a fade, others release more aggressively to hit draws. Hope that makes sense?

Love to see a video on Hall of Famer Moe Norman Aka "The Greatest Ball Striker to Ever Play" According to Gary Player Lee Trevino and many other 'Hall of Famers'. Both Moe and Bryson have similarities with the limited rotation of the hands. Their address and set up is different with Moe's approach being far more forgiving on aging players than Bryson's approach which requires more strength and club speed like you pointed out. Moe had an approach that limited body movement to produce consistent impact because his swing had less range of motion bio-mechanically to get lost in.
@ExplanarGolf Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback. We’ll definitely look at creating a Moe Norman video in the coming months. Thanks for watching.

Hi Luther this subject on the hammer has always perplexed me as one hammers down vertically while the swing is aside and the plane is nearer 45 deg. Would appreciate some help.
@ExplanarGolf Жыл бұрын
It’s more a concept of the optimum path through impact. The longer the face stays square into and beyond impact, the straighter and more powerful the shot. If the path is excessively in-to-out or out-to-in, you’re more likely delivering a glancing blow because some of the swing momentum is moving left or right of target rather than towards it. Make sense?
@77bovi Жыл бұрын
@@ExplanarGolf hi Luther, I do understand the concept of path and staying square longer. But I dont get how the hammer movement relates to it. Feeling frustrated that I'm not getting something that might be a key to improve my game. If we turned the hammer 90 deg so it faces the target and then gripped it, I could possibly see how to swing it to strike the ball level (even though that is not my current way of swinging). Thanks again
@77bovi Жыл бұрын
@@ExplanarGolf update, imagining the club as a hammer held with the hitting head facing sideways is the biggest revelation to my swing ever. It is completely life changing and so many pieces are falling into place. I ulnar deviate and supinate + some left wrist bow from around p6 (but I'm sure the intent starts fractionally earlier) Firstly I now know how to deliver the club properly from a properly steep backswing with the arms more "infront of my chest", so I'm much less inside and overly deep "stuck". + more wrist cock because I now know how to undo it properly. I am squaring the face better, finding centre better and the ball is staying on the face longer, my left wrist is able to be flatter & firmer through the strike. So much so that when I want to go after a drive, I weaken my grip and "release" as hard as I want to get a small draw or worse case a babe push fade. My driving has improved so much these last 3 rounds I've played. I'm so much more cognizant when I make a good or bad swing. Oh and I'm reaching my best distances multiple times each round when it used to be one drive in multiple rounds.

I watched this last night and took the shaft alignment idea to the range today. I had been pointing the handle at the belt buckle and was pulling the ball. Pointing the handle at the left pocket making the shaft 90° to the target created beautiful draws. Thank you very much.

I have just bought an Explanar 2nd hand and am looking forward to picking it up at the weekend. I bought it to correct a very inside take away and backswing which is causing me to be across the line at the top and therefore starts coming down steep.
