Thanks for this; I, too, hope a proper video can be found in better quality.

This band sounds phenomenal. Do you have more from the early 50s?
@MilestonesArchive9 сағат бұрын
I have posted some other recordings from that period already but I plan to do some improved versions in the future. Stay tuned!

I just finished re-reading Miles' autobiography (hadn't looked at it since I got it in 1989), and hearing this band and having the history fresh in mind really brings this music to life. Your liner notes pretty much cover Miles' situation at this time. I had forgotten how deep into heroin Miles was early on in his career and how much it dominated his day-to-day existence. It's amazing he was able to eventually kick the habit, avoid pulling a Bird, and go on to invent 3 or 4 new styles of jazz over the next 40 years. Thanks a lot for posting this.

Thank you! There's a lot more I could have written about this period but KZbin only gives you so many characters. These unofficial recordings really help to capture the time.

Love Billy’s comments at the very end (ha ha). Miles, you see, was NOT into the encore thing, you dig. Once he and his sidemen left, THEY LEFT. PERIOD.

Although at the time the (promotional) powers that be decided to edit the slower material (My Funny Valentine) together as well as the uptempo pieces (‘Four’ And More), I tend to like hearing this concert ‘unedited’ and in concert order. (Call it “The TCM Effect”.)

Yes, classics though those albums are, it's so much better to hear the music as played that evening

Some additional comments that we didn't have space for in the notes above: These pieces were issued on a number of Boris Rose's bootlegs, recorded from a radio broadcast hosted by DJ Symphony Sid Torin. Torin's between-song introductions were not included on these bootlegs, as they had been on some other Rose boots. The audio on these bootlegs was rough but listenable, but the main issue was that the tracks were running off-speed (we previously posted this session back in 2016 in these off-speed versions). Even when officially issued by Blue Note records the speed ran up to a semitone sharp (the official issue also omits the brief fragment of Jumpin' With Symphony Sid, which was probably a broadcast sign-off of only a few bars). This version has been speed corrected and re-EQed and, we believe, is now superior to the issued versions. Thanks again. Yes I would say this is well superior to the issued Blue Note version which I'm just listening to. Your re eq-ing has really brought the rhythm section to life. Good band on this date wasn't it!? bw J

I went to both the gigs Miles played that night at the Festival Hall 👌Great Band. Miles was superb. I have always absolutely loved the ‘Time After Time’ from this gig…so incredibly moving…he takes so much time with the mute…no rushing…lots of space…Scofield’s beautiful little solo..then mute off and those high notes ❤❤ oh my God, it gets me every time…one of my favourite pieces of music.

Thx for this addition: such a gem, he sounds confident !(no mute). And yes the sound quality of this recording is not the best, considering that it’s on one of the most renowned European stages, badly affecting Al’s cymbal sound….

I was lucky to find a double live album titled Mikes Davis-Heard The World at my local record store. My copy was released in 1983 when I was in high school, it contains Tokyo July 14 1964 w/Rivers and Berlin September 25 1964 w/Shorter.
