I’m completely blind, autistic and have complex PTSD. Music therapy is such a blessing. I’ve always had such a love for music. I also enjoy deep breathing. It’s very calming during stressful moments. My music therapist will put on a relaxing song that I love, she’ll let me stim with my sensory items, and she’ll even let me stim and play with percussion instruments if I want to.

Finding Freedom. As an adult who is completely blind and on the autism spectrum, I strive each and every day to find my freedom. Especially through music. It’s great to be your true authentic self, and not listen to the judgment from others or the judgment from yourself. If any judgment is put upon you to hide your true self, it’s good to take a deep breath and say, “no. This is what I need. I know what I need, it’s ok for me to express myself. I’m allowed to express myself in my own way.” I’m learning that there is no right or wrong way.

Beautiful! I do listen to classical music that’s more soothing and relaxing, particularly with the strings and the violin and the cello and the piano as well. Especially during the winter because it’s like the music of hibernation and sleep during the cold freezing winter outside.
@RyanJuddMusic18 күн бұрын
Thank you! Yes, I agree that winter is the perfect time to slow down and enjoy music like this.
@J125dragon18 күн бұрын
@ cause usually I like to just stay inside and sleep and play with my toys inside like I don’t go outside at all when it’s cold and freezing now if it was snowing then maybe I would go outside just to check it out but most of the time I would be staying inside

I wish I had this as a kid. I'm happy she is getting the help she needs <3
I love how you highlighted the ways music therapy promotes relaxation and healing! While I'm not a music therapist myself, I thought I'd add a few other benefits to the conversation. A skilled music therapist can often do an even better job than a regular teacher when it comes to teaching instruments. Plus, music therapists are great at helping students meet the goals outlined in their IEPs. Music can be such a powerful tool for helping kids develop all kinds of skills. It’s also incredibly energizing for children with disabilities, helping them engage in unique ways.

Does music help kids to heal from autism , or it just help them to relax for a little but not forever?
@RyanJuddMusicАй бұрын
I don't believe that anything can "heal" a child from autism, but we can help them learn how to better communicate and regulate their sensory systems.

This video came on my feed a few years ago and stayed with me, the deep level of connection through the rhythm- so much so, that I have been using structuring the environment through rhythm ( tactile, auditory) when working with autistic children and children with PMLD, and I witness true magic happen: connection, a relationship of trust forming, and them feeling safer and more receptive to the environment. I have passed this link on to many of my colleagues- although we are not music therapists as such, the "aha" moments are here
