I would also replace the cover for the battery with a larger one so that you can install a larger battery. This allows you to use the Cnhl 3000mah batteries. I am very excited to see what you will make of it.

That's right! A lot of fun, and I personally liked to time the laps afterwards, too. It gives some interesting insights! Even though the laps are not very accurate, you could see the hydro lap time decreasing as the lipo was draining. The next goal is sub 7 seconds with the net rigger build! 😎

@@CozyRC Amazing work, my friend!
@peteroosterhoff885010 күн бұрын
My guess would be a cat(style) boat always runs faster. More lift, less drag, etc. Probably same reason why most real and/or fastest offshore powerboats are cats too...
@CozyRC10 күн бұрын
Yes, you're right! It' can all be explained by physics. The hydro runs on a cushen of air, lifting it out of the water. The mono has a V-shape, more like cutting the water and pushing it to the side.
@SkiRacingOz10 күн бұрын
Becomes a whole lot less clear cut when you give a mono a pad though, you can have it chop through rough water better, turn faster and tighter and reach speeds close to what a cat would
@CozyRC10 күн бұрын
Speeds close to what a car would? What do you mean by that? This Mini Mono got to 53mph on 4S and a 2600kV motor. Not too bad, but I will go for 62mph with the carbon version I'm now finishing. ✌️
@SkiRacingOz10 күн бұрын
@@CozyRC sorry I meant to say cat, the t and r are next to each other and someone doesn’t check their writing
@rnclucas10 күн бұрын
Hi Jan,now you've said what I've been noticing ever since you put that mono in the water. That boat has enormous drag. I've already started mine, but there's still time to correct any technical flaws in the design. One of the things I've noticed from the start, even with other propellers, is the effort it makes to glide through the water, and this is noticeable in the sound of the engine. What could it be? Could adding some longitudinal shafts to the hull help? Or perhaps opt for a flatter keel? What's your suggestion? Tks
@CozyRC10 күн бұрын
I think you're right, it could be improved still! First of all, the 3000mAh lipo is quite large. It would run already lighter with a 2200mAh lipo as I heard from others. Lifting strakes might help, especially in the corners. Maybe I should give the stinger some more positive angle to try. And finally, the prop makes a big difference, too. That being said, it does run fast with 76km/h. If you put both boats on a speed calculation sheet, the difference on efficiency is not even that big. The hydro is about 82% efficient, and the Mono is about 78%. I will definitely try to further improve it 😎
@SkiRacingOz10 күн бұрын
Adding strakes and a reverse chine could help, also adding a pad though that could prove rather finicky on a rc hull
@kaprc63110 күн бұрын
The discussion about the strakes is indeed very interesting! But, except for triangular balsa strips (which I don't really like) I cannot think of any other method of building nice symmetrical and straight strakes!
@CozyRC10 күн бұрын
Yes, balsa would be the most suitable. And indeed.. they're difficult to make! But... I have a project running in the background, making a 3D printed mold for the Mini Mono, including strakes!
