Looks like you’ve done that once or a thousand times. Thanks for the vid!

Couple thoughts. One, I was taught this in person before camera videos and the only ones I’ve shared it with are my sons. And the experience has been genuinely enjoyable with a Traditional feel without the guilt that we were adding to depopulation of herds. Because we knew it was special because it was so few people hunting. We never saw anyone. near it. That was 30 years ago. And today with the KZbin showing every Tom dick and harry and city slickers how to dress animals there are a few side affects. First of all we have stores selling more hunting gear then necessary with obvious impact on the environment. Especially from all the atv’s crawling our countryside’s. That never used to be. It’s unreal. Our area used to have a couple our small trails but now the atv’s are carving up the landscape. And there are other impacts as well but likely the greatest impact is to the herds. They’re smaller. Bulls are smaller. Anyhow, just my two cents worth. I like KZbin. But man oh man it sure is gotten extreme in its influence on our wildlife and environment. Maybe our government need to charge KZbin an environmental impact fee.

I watched a few videos and couldn't get the crown knot. After seeing Your video bringing the middle strand and holding it with your thumb made absolute sense. Thanks...
@paulhomsy27517 ай бұрын
It s a knot that takes a second to make. You're complicating it by going so slowly and using hands in a beginner's manner. It's a practical everyday knot for tying horses so that in extreme cases it can release. To call it "highwayman's knot or bank robber's knot" when it comes from farms and ranches is glamorizing and false.

Nice tutorial -- just what I was seeking! I was watching a video today of a hunter demonstrating how he loaded a game bag filled with two quarters, plus loose boned meat of a cow elk onto his modern hunting backpack (EXO K4). While he managed to get the load secured, it occurred to me that the process might have gone much more smoothly if the sacked game meat had first been snugged into a less-floppy package via mantying. I then realized that, since it has been a quarter-century since I last mantied a load, I needed a refresher! Thanks for posting the video.

By far the best video I have seen on this subject. everyone wants to know about that little knife too, so please let us all know what it is and advise the company that sales will go up when you do.

I have been tying a similar knot for a number of years. I would put the first loop under the same as you have done, then the end, I would push a loop inside the first loop, and finally the third loop, made from the end which is attached to the horse, inside the second loop. Everything else is the same. I used this knot often for pulling tractors out, when they were bogged down, when I was at work, as it was quick to tie, and easy to untie. The others were suprised that I could get these sorted out so quickly.

I learned this one when I was about 14 but with the standing and working ends reversed. I practiced it over and over until I could tie it in less than two seconds. Rope versions tend to tumble apart but leather versions hold pretty well.
