When Sokolov plays, as is the case with Arrau, Richter, Michelangeli, and others, one is sure to hear a distinctive and penetrating reading. Here, the clarity is brilliant, exquisite. The piece is brought into a bright light.

How difficult is this? I am not a specialist with Mozart so can someone give an example of a Beethoven Sonata, which is similar to this?

Penso che sia praticamente impossibile trovare una Sonata di Beethoven che "somigli" a questa o ne rappresenti il corrispettivo; sebbene entrambi i compositori, insieme ad Haydn, siano esponenti dello Stile Classico le personali caratteristiche espressive e, mi si passi il termine, di articolazione del linguaggio musicale, nonché del modo di trattare lo strumento Pianoforte, sono molto distanti al punto che, infatti, è impossibile confonderli. Se però intendi come si colloca questa Sonata nel repertorio sonatistico per Pianoforte di Mozart e, volendo istituire in questo senso un parallelo con la produzione beethoveniana, direi che, fatti salvi stilemi ed elementi di tecnica pianistica peculiari di entrambi, si tratta di una composizione pianistica che si colloca nella metà della produzione sonatistica di Mozart. Per quanto riguarda Beethoven, che fino all.op 28 aveva seguito il modello di Sonata di Haydn e Mozart in una lettera scrisse a Wenzel Krumpholz, "D'ora in poi, ho intenzione di prendere un nuovo percorso." quindi dall'op.28 in poi istituire un parallelo è impossibile.

How does Sokolov turn any piece into liquid gold? He makes them make sense. It's magical to me. Not only clear articulation, but extremely musical. All the passages he makes it voiced, cantabile, important. When I try to play it there's so much weird notes. I'm in awe.

Anybody who plays the piano can appreciate just how astounding the articulation is in this performance. Achieving those pearl shaped 16th notes which somehow sound both legato and staccato at the same time takes an incredible technique. I think this might be my favorite.

Ένας σπουδαίος καθηγητής που ειχα στη μουσική οταν τον ρωτούσαμε γιατι δεν εκτιμά τον Ραχμάνινωφ μας απαντούσε : «πολλες νότες…!!!… γιατί;;;; Ενώ ο Μότσαρτ ακριβώς όσες χρειάζονται!!!» Και είχε δίκιο! Όσοι παίζουμε Μότσαρτ ξέρουμε οτι αν μας φύγει μια νότα αν κατι ξεχάσουμε μετά καταρρέει όλο το έργο γιατι κάθε νότα στον Μότσαρτ παίζει τον ρόλο της….
