Love this rare instrument! Ms Pouya Laqayi makes great videos of this type as well. What kind of mizrab does it use, is it like afghan rubab which is sometimes made of coconut or turtle shell? I think they call it shahbaz, zakhmeh, as well as mizrab.
@franckleriche5 ай бұрын
Since it's quite a new and rarely played instrument, there's no typical plectrum. I tried many, from horn in different shapes and thicknesses, from hard wood, from coconut. Finally, my favorite one is a modified horn oud rishe that my sister-in-law brought to me when she came from Syria. I made it more narrow and quite flexible. It has a crispy sound and fits perfectly with the gut strings.

Bonjour! Tres joli! Merci
@franckleriche5 ай бұрын
Merci.

@franckleriche5 ай бұрын

You're right, I was attracted to the oud when I was sixteen by Fawzi Sayeb, then I studied Persian and Turkish music since I was 23. But you missed just two points, and I know they are big secret influences. My grandmother was a classical piano player, and I loved her playing. The second one, I was a jazz guitar player for almost twenty years. But I'm really happy you did not guess, which means It's well-digested!

I was a student of Hossein Omoumi and Dariush Talâ'i more than 30 years ago but I also studied what is now called Ottoman music and some Arabic music so this is not traditional music from any country or region, It's rather more how all those influences are getting mixed in my mind and heart from all those musical experiences.
