@ just a guess based on where you through the skull, and your reaction to falling. The first time play through is the best one. Don’t let yourself get spoiled like I did. Only things I would make sure you understand, that won’t spoil anything, is poise, shield stability, and equip load. Rock on dude 🤘

Nothing to be ashamed of. I'd say I killed about 12 bosses using throwing knives after bringing them down to ~5-10% health. Usually, I'm out of my own resources by that point, so I back off and start throwing. It's remarkably effective.
