I had one stuck too and a mechanic showed me a trick which I saw it was too simple to work but it did. Spray Blaster on it and get a screw driver and a hammer and tap the head of the screw. It worked. It was really stuck and it was a very old lower unit

Thank you! I did a lot of tapping with a hammer and a flat nail. Then I heated with a lighter. Then tapped some more. Then I tried a large screw driver with a wrench attached and it finally came loose. Thanks for the tips.

If you have regular maintenance to do the gear oil change. The plug will be easy to remove it. Over tight is your problem. The plug coming with washer to help seal water out. Next time using a* big flat head* screw driver with muscle will do the work. No need to replace the plug.

Hi, thanks for posting the vid. I'm having the same issue with my Johnson 50hp, the bottom screw (or plug) is stuck really tight. I did what you did, still can't get son of a bitch out. The screw is damaged really bad. Any more idea? Should I drill the whole thing out and tap new hole? I'm hoping to avoid doing that. Thanks.
@johnanthony59314 жыл бұрын
Very wrong. Feom start to finish all wrong. Sorry man. I been doing this for 28 years. No product made will just buff off. You must sand. Wash boat and clay it. Gelcoat heats up much faster than clear coat on a car.

The rpm was a little low. 1800 for buffing 1400 for polishing Now wonder it didn't come out that well.

Remove the upper vent plug while filling from the bottom plug, else pressure can blow out a lip seal. Once full, install upper vent plug. About every manual tells how to do this correctly. An motorcycle type impact driver is often used to remove/install these plugs, a simple screwdriver doesn't cut the mustard.
