@@thegasmask266 the M2 ASD is not coding, it requires re-flashing the entire firmware with esys. In this video, the only custom coding is a malformed configuration to fully silence/disable ASD. Everything is M2 software w/ M240i coding.

@@thegasmask266 I edited my type (and had to change a lot of option codes to safely generate a modified FA/FP). Once that's done, generate an SVK for the modified VO and use "force hardware IDs" to push the incorrect firmware to the matching HWEL items. Generate your TAL and go to flash it but only select the RAM yes. Make sure to select the *STOCK* FA/FP/VO and the modified SVK and modified TAL. ONLY flash the RAM. Flashing some modules requires KCAN so a standard ENET cable may not work out of the box. The MHD Universal Wi-Fi dongle (red one!) will do everything you need. Good luck and if all else fails, just use the TAL editor and start copy/pasting the incorrect SWFL/SWFK/BTLD IDs. It's sketchy and hacky but safe in my experience. Flash the wrong thing, and signature checks fail and the mirror-flash reverts back to stock & reboots (on G series...) 👌

This is exactly my experience in the rain with the same car. Punched it hard throttle in very wait conditions on a left turn and when I corrected the car just kept snapping back the opposite way. I’d correct. Snap again.

Really interesting video and info in the comments here. I’ve been trying to learn how to get my MY24 xdrive M240i to be more tail happy and power slide. I find if I’m powering it out of a 90 degree junction from a standstill I just get understeer. In dry conditions I find it almost impossible to step the rear out. Largely use the sport “traction” mode as I don’t want to bin it on public road so like having the safety net compared to DSC OFF. However in the rain the thing comes a live and can be tricky to control at times. I’m still very new and maybe just being over cautious

Traction mode is doing what it's supposed to. It does on paper permit slip but no yaw - therein stops you from being tail happy period. If you are using Sport mode at all, the suspension is very soft and grippy. The tcase stops you frpm yawning much at all. DSC off and an EXTREMELY HARD fling are the only way (I have done it on track with xdrive on, video soon). Plus, xdrive actually KILLS self steer. In my experience the car will give you no idea where the front wheels are, and without warning will shove the car further into the drift (in under half a second). An xdrive powerslide takes balls. An xdrive drift requires fucking insanity.

@@xPyro_G42 I’ve found from static a power slide takes too many balls and agreed it’s hard to know where the front wheels are, there’s zero feeling and you’re fighting the xdrive as it wants to fling you the other way you countersteer then its drifts. Almost like the xdrive plus human input = over correction However DSC off in dry traction mode in wet, with a bit of momentum coming off a roundabout (we have lots in the UK) low speed like 30 ish mph. 2nd gear. Can get nice and tail happy but controllable in the exit of the roundabout. Just the right amount of slip for a power slide but straighten up nicely

@@xPyro_G42we can thank the electric power steering rack for the lack of front wheel communication. I own the G42 and tracked the G87 and both suffer from lack of steering feel. It’s my only complaint with our cars. Wonder if there is a way to add force feedback similar to a sim racing wheel.

Good eye! It has an M4 Competition badge on the shifter because it's an M4 Competition shifter. ;) All iDrive8 equipped non-M cars have a lightswitch-like toggle. I despise it. I put this in hoping it would let me -/+ shift (the paddles on the wheel are so hard to keep track of when drifting...), but, the M-car transmissions have a slightly different shifter CAN packet structure. I am not able to use it for shifting, so I just kept it because why not haha.

@@xPyro_G42 ye true... those pedals really arent good for drifting/racing... and the blinker/windshieldwiper levers are so close when i test drove my car i always hit those levers, while trying to shift. Shifter looks nice though :) (i got the new model... it just has this small shift knob -.-) Btw nice drifts. ;)

Can't say I've noticed that! 🤔 The fan very much runs when I step away but the grilles seem closed. I think it's usually just cooling by using the lower part of the radiators. Maybe I've never parked it hot enough aside from that night? Haha.

Yes and no. This car has the same differential as the G87 M2 (but with one less clutch disk, and the servo's torque programmed differently). It is by design an open differential but there is a clutch pack by the ring gear which squeezes to lock the axles. Not limit - LOCK. The fluid, servo motor current, "steps" rotated, clutch wear (measured by motor current), and temperatures are all calibrated dizzyingly well - so the DSC system (even with "DSC OFF" mind you....) knows exactly how hard to squeeze to send ft-lbs to each wheel. Not torque split. Not limited slip. Actual, "only send 200ftlb from the engine, to the outer wheel, to prevent oversteer spinout" type shit.

I have the 2024 rwd version and it feels exactly like the M2 differential and I didnt see any slip if you drive it hard(track+alot of sideways action). I guess the only way to find out is to search the serial number and compare. I dindnt find any technical data about both to compare.

EDIT: I wrote all of this thinking you meant slip ANGLE (not rear diff slip), by "didn't see any slip." ​@@rautoiua ​ The differential is absolutely the same as the M-cars; per BMW technician training documents (no marketing/bs; these docs must be accurate or a technician could get hurt lol). The only difference is 1 extra clutch in the pack. Even the servo motor and control module ("GHAS") is the same. Note: the GHAS only handles locking the differential. It doesn't directly control _when_ it will lock, with regards to vehicle dynamics. That is to say: my XDrive car (in this video) is doing everything a 2023 RWD M240i would do. The diff is definitely the same, including on your car. There's no way they would change the programming on the DSC system (which controls the diff) between 23-24. It's an ASIL D compliant system that would take YEARS of testing. I will validate your observation tho: the car has to be driven like a COMPLETE fucking DUMBASS. You have to keep your foot on the throttle WAY more than any other car. If you lift even slightly while hooning in public streets, it will immediately snap back to straight. The failure mode of a G-series car is to save your ass - not spin out (but it can still v much spin out lol). In fact, the rear differential starts to open up as you hit full lock, so as to keep you from having more yaw than you can safely control. On track, the car knows when you want to throw it sideways or not. The diff behaves accordingly. Super tail-happy when you've feinted it (right-left-right/release initiation in this video). But if I just gas it while turning, I basically understeer the whole time. The rear diff will also lock up as you gun it out of a turn. As I write this, I think I'm starting to realize it all boils down to: the diff likes to let you drift if you start the drift from 0* of steering angle. I should try and test this theory sometime.

@@xPyro_G42 very nice explanation! The thing is that before I bought this car I tried the xdrive version. I wanted a rwd but I wanted to be sure that i dont miss something. Yes, from standing still will be faster but on the rwd version I didnt feel the understeer. To be mentioned, it is the ztk package without the adaptive suspension. I wanted the biggest brakes with the 245 michelin front tires. From the 225 that is standard..it is night and say difference. Also I wanted the non adaptive suspension. I do racing in my national endurance series and I set up racing cars for others and I want the suspension to be the same. Not to change if you put it on sport OR for example you select sport and you feel that the suspension is fighting to make it hard. It is a battle that the suspension will lose. The non adaptive is way way better for sporty/track driving. Also I chose g42 because it was faster than the last m2. I was surprised about this but it felt way better. More feeling on the older one but the clock doesnt lie. On the g42 I felt the understeer only once when I was on a very twisty road in the mountains with a very veeery bad road surface(bouncy) and it was low speed also. Maybe I have a bad habit to do trailbraking even when I drive normally and this may be the answer why I dont have understeer. My brakes and front tires most probably will go in max 1 year but thats not a problem. I think I felt the rear like the m2 because I also have a habit of using the weight of the car in my advantage. I will go and try to find somewhere to weight it. I m pretty sure they lied about the weight. I think is a 1600kg car ( in my spec with rwd and no sunroof). It is chonky but the car masks the weight extremly well. When the rear tires will start to go dead I will try what you said with the steering angle. Very curious about full lock drifts if the diff will feel like a locked one or an open one.

@@R03333 I got 27 laps (on this layout/event) on this pair of iMove Gen2's. I drove home on them, and have been driving on them still. The tires cost me $170/pair. I was hitting 43ish MPH GPS speed and I've hit 4th gear this day. So: * A single pair of tires lasted me an entire drift event * My GPS speed was faster than cars at the last Formula Drift event. * I leave an F22 in the dust despite being 500lbs heavier. "Heavy" is dead to me after driving this car. 😈

Absolutely makes no difference. The AWD system also almost never engages, so there's legitimately no drivetrain losses in full traction scenarios. There is no difference in top end - but I do THINK there is a tiny (and I mean VERY TINY) difference from slow speeds if you punch it. I have a theory that it's slightly laggier while pre-emtpively locking the transfer case clutches. But I might be imagining things.

Months later - not a single complaint! Upshifts can be weird in high-load, low-RPM scenarios. This is because torque reductions in the xHP app scale the entire reduction table (X axis likely RPM, Y axis likely load, cell values likely Nm reductions). I like a little more reductions up top, but down low, it pulls torque when it's ideal that it doesn't. So it can be a little punchy. But I mean a little - and who the hell shifts WOT at 2500 RPM anyway haha. A custom tune from Rod Sutphin will fix this issue, but I can't even really call it an "issue."

For anyone looking for PreLCI retrofit on G20, look up “SmokeMotion LCI Gear Knob retro fit”. In his video the (+\-) on the knob feature actually works in his iDrive8 car and it’s nuts.

Coding alone is not sufficient. Coding M theme on stock firmware will just cause the system to boot to a black screen because the graphics files are nonexistent on the M-Lite firmware. You must use ESys to force the incorrect firmware onto the car.

In the M-lite firmware it's only in the infotainment screen under Adaptive Content; but the instrument cluster widget is rendered by the infotainment and that's just a coding option. Do note that turning that on breaks a couple other features like shortcuts to Sport Individual; the ability to control Iconic Sounds (I have that on a shortcut to close the valves in sport mode when cops are around). etc.

A video is in the works. It cannot be coded; no. This is a full system firmware change, not just coding. I'm slowly learning more as a tweak and fuzz around this implementation. I've got "M2 brap on lift" working in my car purely by accident lol. It's entirely just the subwoofer but it's so convincing I thought it was real lmao.

The microphone is built into the Insta360 Ace Pro (and is OK but the dynamic compression is AWFUL!!) All modern BMWs pump in a TON of fake engine sound. You basically can't hear the engine over the radio at just 1/3 volume without it.

The B48 is a GOOD engine! Plus it's lighter and you definitely feel it! I was given a 230i Gran Coupe as a loaner. I'm too tall so hated the interior, hit my knee on the wheel all the time. But the steering on that 230i was SO much better than my M240i. Go check out Vehicular DIY - he's pushing his B48 well past 400+ HP. Only problem is the 230i doesn't get the M Sport Diff that the "real" M cars get. It's a shame, because it's such a damn good option.

center console is plug and play, just get a pre-lci m340 (or m240 or wtv) shifter and ur good to go. U can use an M shifter like him but he said there was some type of issue

How do you get your torque / power graphs to show up on the right screen? Is that coded in or something factory?

Factory for M-lite cars! If I code the infotainment for M car features (like water temp, tire psi/temp), it no longer renders them on the right. Only on the cluster widgets. ✌️

Does XHP trans tune void warranty like a ECU tune does? If not I’m getting one tomorrow lol

You should always assume it will. Be prepared to take responsibility for your actions. I personally know for fact that the xHP flashing app does so much more - it also resets the "programming counter" on the TCU chipset so that it doesn't show that you flashed it a ton of times. But still, if something happens (I cannot fathom it would). That'll be on you. It's pretty damn good tbh.
