Thank you. That was incredibly cathartic for me. We couldn’t have a funeral because the ground at the 4-generation family plot was frozen tundra when he died and a timely memorial service was going to be extraordinarily difficult for multiple reasons. So that was the closest I’ve had to a memorial in the almost 6 months to the day that he passed. Ian gave me a gift I’ll never ever forget.

Thank you for your comment. I’m still a little overwhelmed tat Ian brought me up onstage to do that. Instead of scattering my father’s ashes in one place, I’ve been taking a vial of his remains with me whenever I go somewhere eventful/memorable, etc. I will never forget last Friday night, Ian’s incredibly generous and kind gesture, and the love and support of the crowd at Vina Robles that night. Dad has actually not yet been interred in the family plot. My brother and I split the ashes in half. One was given to me and the other half is still in my brother’s possession. The 4-generation family plot is in a very remote part of North Dakota near a farm that has been in the family since the late 1800s. My dad has no post-mortem requests as far as funerals/memorials/casket or cremation. He just wanted to be buried with his parents grandparents and great-grandparents in ND. I live in CA, my brother lives in OH, and he has two kids still in school so the logistics of making that journey have been difficult. The fact that it hasn’t yet been done weigh heavily on me, and much of the problem is out of my hands. So that made last week so huge for me. If there is a heaven, and dad is looking down, he had a huge laugh at that “memorial”. Life is good sometimes.
