I'm sorry you feel that way. Cal Fire Stations 50 and 51 are under state mandates to respond to fires and emergencies outside of Julian, leaving them without coverage. This happense fequently. Stations 50 and 51 are not included in the SIGNED AGREEMENT and remain under state mandate to respond outside of our community. In the SIGNED AGREEMENT with the County it clearly states that Cal Fire will cover one (1) station, that is Station 56 - the community fire department. At 17 minutes and 30 seconds, 90% of the time with a staff of 2-3 proposed by the County of San Diego who contracts with Cal Fire as our only fire service agency. we are not expected to survive, per Cal Fire's own report. This, due to the 23-30 minute proposed response time from Cal Fire for our community. With this data, we're already gone before they arrive. That's not acceptable. The staffing in this dangerous proposal for our community signed by our former board, the County of San Diego/Cal Fire/ San Diego Fire Authority will only be 2-3 personnel (1 paramedic and 1-2 firefighters) for our entire mountain community of Julian and Cuyamaca, with a response time of 23-30 minutes in one engine. You must have an ambulance to transport. That was not in the SIGNED AGREEMENT. The engine proposed is a 2 wheel drive, which is dangerous in itself on windy, tight, snowy, icy, caliche clay slick mountain roads by those with no familiarity of our roads, as our own Julian Cuyamaca Fire do have. It's a safety issue. This is not a safe proposal for our community. What we already have is more than they're offering. All the resources in the world won't matter if Cal Fire is unable to reach you in time. 23 - 30 minutes, if you can be located, is just too long to wait for an emergency response. I can only go by the SIGNED AGREEMENT. If more were considered it would have been included in that SIGNED AGREEMENT. Our Julian Cuyamaca Fire Protection district is equipped with multiple 4x4 trucks, ambulance, brush engine, and more, and staffing far greater than is proposed, with 22 about to graduate from the fire academy and 38 more going in. We are shooting ourselves in the foot to accept less than we already have with our own Julian Cuyamaca Fire Department. The proposal did not include covering or protection for Cuyamaca at all in the SIGNED AGREEMENT with the County. Although passionate about saving my neighbours, I do hope this contains enough data for your to not hurl insults or dismiss the claims of those who signed the petition to have a chance to vote. Respect for one another is paramount. We ask the same from you, as emotion is not a factor in the above-referenced numbers. They are from Cal Fire's own reports.
