The way the strings kick in at the end is so perfect, they should've kept them for the final version.

Perfectly done. A song I have tried to live by for 40 years. Some failures, some big wins. No matter, keep fighting, keep dreaming, keep helping, keep the fucking faith brothers and sisters. Love, me

Has anyone noticed that the main riff sounds like Baba O'Riley from Who's Next released in 1971, three years before Brinsley Schwarz in 1974? The Elvis Costello version has a slightly different riff with more notes which is why I never noticed the similarity. Still a great song which resonates today.

Yeah…E.C. (slightly) changed the riff!

Genius. Graham Gouldman's greatest song for the Hollies that he never wrote.

I don’t understand the video on this track WTF.
@nateoliver78779 ай бұрын
I think it's meant to evoke the idea of young men being forced to 'grow up' too fast, a theme that was explored several times on the Setting Sons album. They're taking one last look at familiar places before being trained for war.
@Andy-x3e4z9 ай бұрын
@@nateoliver7877 I get your point,I’ve seen the video to When your young showing young kids so I see your reasoning,but maybe I was waiting for a punch line at the end.But I still love it thanks for your comment.

Great song. If AP didn't have such a thin voice and the well documented psychiatric problems (on valium since a little kid ffs) that stopped them touring, XTC would have been massive. Such great songs, whether XTC or TDOS.

While this song is fairly well-composed, it - like so many Weller wrote for The Jam - is underdeveloped and just too short to make the most of its ideas. The horns appear in the last few bars... and that's it.
@NorthernCitrusParrot Жыл бұрын
Fair comment, although I've always thought of this and others as concise rather than underdeveloped.
