I love it. So nice job. After completing a 2.4 * 1.2 m HO layout in 4 years, I am now reverting to ON 30 on a modest 1.4 * 1.1 layout and your work gave me lot of inspiration for its unique atmosphere. Just a question: the slope seems (and ought) to be above the 4% max grade. How does it work with the Heisler and Porter Locos? Congrats for the achievement

Good morning Martin, and thank you for your lovely comment, I did enjoy building this little layout, it sounds like you have had a really rough time, and I hope you are now well on the way to recovery, I myself had heart problems 12 months ago, and found when I had the strength to get back to modelling it really helped me, it's nice to have a bit of escapism, I will subscribe to your channel and hopefully when you feel ready, I will be able to watch you modelling again, I wish you all a very best, take care of yourself, Carl

@carlroberts2539Күн бұрын
I know that building well, metcalfe have a lovely collection of card models, I believe I've built most of them except for the castle, but will confess straight away. I always seem to end up with spare parts, well when I say spare parts, I mean bits I've missed out by mistake, or just too fiddly for my aging eyesight, but you can cut them up and alter them so easily, really put your own stamp on them, all the best to you Martin

@carlroberts253925 күн бұрын
Hi Paul, thank you for liking the videos, I find old clock winding keys the best for couplings, I should do a video on them really, I just use the handle part and cut the winding section off, if you have access to Facebook, I have shown what I use on there, but if not, I will do a clip, all the best

This is so cool!! Do you have a video that explains how the layout came about? I watched the one where you were unhappy with early parts of the layout and problems with buckling track(2yrs ago) but that wasn't far enough back, 😄 I also feel I should know who Emett is but I'm at a loss
@carlroberts2539Ай бұрын
Many thanks for liking the layout, I have a Facebook page that I put most of this layout build on, it's called, Carl's Whimsical Railways, Rowland Emett was I believe a Draftsman, and he started drawing cartoons mainly of what was happening in the UK to the railway system, if you can get your hands on a copy of one of his collections, I would recommend the early morning milk train book, you can get it for around £15. It's by far his best collection. I'm sure you'll enjoy it., he was also invited to build a railway for the great exhibition in Battersea Park, it was mainly for children. My father was lucky enough to ride on it when he was a boy., probably his most famous work was the film Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, all of the inventions in the film were designed and made by him, wishing you all the best, Carl
@Bunyip_StudiosАй бұрын
Hi Carl, no worries, you're welcome. Excellent I'll come say hi, and take a look. OK, cool I'll have a look for it. I bet that would have been an amazing experience to ride around on his creations. Yeah, I found a video of one of his exhibitions and that said he'd made the Chitty Chitty inventions. Thanks for the info, Mick

How did I miss this one Carl? Did you throw it away when you moved? I have smoke in the traction engine at Sylfaen Halt which I'm not sure ever steamed in real life.... Can't wait for your builders to get finished so you can get back to building railways 😬🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃
@carlroberts25392 ай бұрын
Hello John, yes, how did you miss this one? I still had three 009 layouts up until two weeks, unfortunately my eyesight is deteriorating and so this scale is out of my reach these days, but on a positive note, I sold the layouts and all my stock for a nice amount, and reinvested it in the new Bachmann NG7 range which I'm very much looking forward to Building in between visits to coffee shops, I can't wait also for the builders to complete my new modelling room or studio as a Net likes to refer to it, but with everything else they're doing first I don't think it's going to be ready until next summer, all the best lad and catch you soon

The roofs on your pre-made buildings are the best part of the building! It's authentic rusted out sheet metal roofing that I have seen in many places in the USA. Great job on that!
@carlroberts25393 ай бұрын
Oh thanks for that, funny thing is, I'm in the UK and I bought these off USA eBay and when they turned up, boy were they battered, they must've had a hard journey, so I had no choice but to repair the roofs, and I wasn't sure how they go down, I build my layout just out of my head with no research or from pictures, so I really appreciate your comments, all the best year

Thanks Tony, not sure quite where I'm going with this one yet, did think about nicking your track plan from your lovely layout, it was a proper treat to see it running, the other layouts at the show were all good, but I've seen that sort of thing so so many times, where is yours Put a smile on my face and I watched from a distance to see the reaction the showgoers, smiles and interest from adults and children alike, top job mate, all the best and see you soon, Carl

What lovely work, Carl. I was in a bit of a funk about modeling a few years back and a friend suggested I look at On30. I really enjoy that scale after seeing it in person and Calvin has been a great help acquiring stock. Then I saw On18 and fell in love with it. I've so many ideas for things to do that it's slowing me down getting started. I spent last weekend at a show and my table mate had an On18 layout he built on a bookshelf. It is lovely and runs a treat. I have a lot of N Scale track from my years building in N, and the greatest thing to me about On18 is that there are no hard and fast rules or rivets to count. It really puts me in mind of your work and seeing what you've done here is really inspiring.
@carlroberts25393 ай бұрын
Hi Jeff, lovely to hear from you and thanks for your kind words again, On30 certainly changed my modelling, I was in a bit of a rutt modelling UK stuff mainly, then I stumbled across the scale, so very different to what I've been doing and I just took to it straight away, and then of course On18 followed along nicely, Calvin has been super good to me, with helping advice and generally pointing me in the right direction, I do tend to go off plan a bit now and again, maybe a bit whimsical or just cartoony, but it's not hurting anyone, not sure where I'm going with this one as yet, but I think I might keep it micro, hope you're well and happy modelling all the best Carl
@TheJpec3613 ай бұрын
@@carlroberts2539 Calvin is a 🌟. How do you do your hook and chain couplings?
@carlroberts25393 ай бұрын
Jeff, I just use a track pin , bent slightly and short piece of chain, I do glue the chain to one of the wagons permanently, not a great way of doing it I know but I haven't come up with anything better yet
