Thanks for introducing me to so many new titles. If you're interested in more Black sapphic fantasy romance titles, there's: Darknesses by Lachelle Seville The Fall That Saved Us by Tamara Jeree Loving Safoa by Liza Wemakor I think Fantasy Romance being dominated by yt and straight perspectives (and normative attitudes around what romance is, who deserves it, and who is a worthy love interest) severely limits storytelling innovation in the genre. The result is alienating and stigmatizing to readers who don't desire or don't find comfort in the desires shown in mainstream fantasy romance. I've had the most luck with self-published or small press titles. Even in romances with Black and/ or queer characters, there are still hierarchies in relationship styles and dynamics and which ones get the most marketing traction. I look forward to the proliferation of Black LGBTQ fantasy romance so I can find more stories that reflect the nuances of Black LGBTQ life and partnership, including aging and disability.

@@ThistleVerse Yessss!! Thank you so much for expanding on this subject because it's something that needs more attention. I think these stories are amazing and deserve just as much attention as the popular titles. There is so much diversity within Black literature that I can't wait to explore! I will definitely check out those other titles. Thank you so much ♥️

I truly hate things that separate us. Why black scifi, why white scifi. When I read a book or watch a movie I couldn't care less what the characters race ,creed or religion is unless it directly makes a difference in the story. Whether it was Will Smith or Tommy Lee Jones playing the lead in I Robot is irrelevant, Smith was better. A space novel with pictures of ships battling in space will make fir a good story. The same novel with a picture of a black person or a white doesn't change the story. At no point in the Asimov's Foundation series does he state the race of lead roles. Just stop separating us.😂😂

Hi! i haven't run into your channel or tiktok yet, this is the first of your content that I've seen and love the video! (I think this is also my very first youtube comment that I've ever made as well, lol!) I want to recommend Yume by Sifton Tracey Anipare. I only *happened* to stumble upon this book in my local bookstore and it's one of the most entrancing books I've read in a very long time. It's mildly horror, taking place in Japan and the plot largely involving yokai - but Miss Anipare does an amazing job at contrasting the experience of a black woman in a largely homogeneous society to what it means to be a newer yokai in the spiritual realm; very much the sentiment of as above so below. Except, as a reader you're not sure where that line blends. This book is not talked about enough imo. I hope my take on this book did it justice because Miss Anipare deserves more recognition for this hidden gem of hers and I really hope she continues to write in the near future.

2 things to know about me: 1) I'm a voracious reader/horror junkie who really likes to see things from other people's perspectives. 2) I'm white as hell. Like, raised in rural Ohio, farmland for miles, no black people in my class in high school kinda white. Mayonnaise is my jam. So, when I found this book at a used bookstore recently, I jumped at it. I'm not finished yet, but so far I've found the horror really effective. Maybe that's just because I don't have the experiences that a lot of these authors have, but it is so refreshing to me to see things in a new way.
