How awesome, now instead of stumbling bass lines, I can maybe start playing them like I’m not 3 sheets to the wind! Much thanks Ryan!

Good lesson on dead notes. I tend to think of them as the left hand of the snare drum, lots of &s of two and four. My problem is that I don't get a good dead note on the 4th string so I get it on the 3rd string which is a little awkward. What kind of strings do yo use?
@RyanMadoraMusic9 күн бұрын
I tend to use D'Addario XLs for roundwound strings and then either Dunlop or Labellas for flatwounds. A tip about the dead note: you'll want to play it on the same string you're about to fret. Hope that helps!
@Lutemann9 күн бұрын
@@RyanMadoraMusic I do on the other strings, it's just on the 4th string the ghost note doesn't pop the way I want it too. It might be the strings, they are very old.

Loved (as always)this lesson Ryan! I really appreciate how you break things down into understandable bites that turn out to have unlimited options. Keep on Grooving!

You are going to hate me saying this but you should play with a bass strap when you are sitting down. Use a strap, get the neck up to about a 40 to 45 degree angle and straighten that left hand wrist.

This may be what appears to be a "simple" line, but to do it well with the extras, is what makes it great, and graceful. Thank you Ryan.

So does this mean you are starting on the G (3rd fret of E string ) and switching over to C (3rd fret of A string) to start the slide ?

I'm a left handed piano player wanna--be which is why I watch your videos. This was cool to learn about the tone, but damn, I need to develop my ear. It's better than when I started piano two years ago, but I envy musicians. I';; look at the musicians you mentioned, as well as bands you are in.

Thanks for the video. I love my Starbass5. When I want something old skool sounding compared to my Spector Euro5 LX TW I go with the Starbass with flats.

😂😹🕹Sweet sound, and being connected to a friend and colleague through an instrument like that has got to be a special experience. Having started on an EB-0 in 1978 as a high school freshman and only getting a standard scale in 2001 or so, I had a lot of experience on the short scale. No way I can argue with those who do great things with the short and mid-scale, but I was so glad to my hands which are pretty big, onto the larger instrument.
