@@thepcfd since the ion engine isn't 100% efficient, it produces heat as a byproduct but it does not use this product to heat it system. Separate system within the spacecraft would do that job

As in, what you think is a star and where it appears to be in the sky is actually where the star was when the light from the star left the star. Nuclear reactors don't produce thrust. They boil water that turns turbines which causes things to move. So unless these spaceships have water to boil, you're not getting off the planet with nuclear fission.

yeah but you're forgetting one key facet, speed, we don't want our astronauts to age 10 years trying to visit one of jupiters moons... another issue is fuel economy the reason we don't accelerate longer and get to higher speeds is cuz it's not viable, atm it's basically "short bursts of acceleration followed by long stretches of coasting" because it literally has to be
