Great review, I have to say. I got both versions: by Hilde Schneider and by Maria Roemer. I've decided to combine these courses and find that way more effective. However, the Roemer's version looks more relevant.

Just finished the Assimil Gemran with Ease but an earlier edition, from 1987! Still using Deutschmarks! It turned out that I had bought an Indian reprint edition for the India market. Still it came with the audio files on CD, most of them anyway. The three missing files I had to go on KZbin to find. I'm now ploughing through the intermediate book Assimil Perfectionnement Allemand which is French edition only. But no matter, I can use the Google Translate app on my smartphone to scare the explanatory notes into English. I decided to go with Assimil because of the heavy audio component. You just have to hear this stuff again and again until it sticks. Anyway having watched this video, I'm thinking of buying the latest edition for German just to see what it's like. Always something new to learn.

@@nanonkay5669 You do realise languages change over time right? Expressions/words fall out of use, and new ones appear. Don't get me wrong, you can still use the previous edition to learn French, but I think the latest 'patched' version is more relevant to the language used today.
@nanonkay5669
@nanonkay5669 Жыл бұрын
@@KentMeyers yes languages do change overtime, but perhaps in a 100 year span. 25 years between 1998 and 2023 wouldn't really change the language, maybe new vocabulary that you'll probably won't need a textbook for.
