Something hopeful I don't see a lot of people talking about I suddenly realized. The power to open the portal large enough to travel through, or to hold it open was shown to be unsustainable, but they absolutely could make smaller portals to communicate. Sprig had a phone. He and Anne absolutely could have had regular phone calls after the series ended. My headcannon is that the person who originally figured out the portal (I forget their name) spent the years after the finale trying to get the portal to at least stabilize, working with a team of scientists on both worlds. I don't think they ever got it to open large enough to transport whole people (or frogs (or newts or toads)), but I imagine they eventually got it stable enough to regularly communicate, and Earth technology was in the process of being recreated in Amphibia. A few years after the epilogue, I imagine Sprig and Anne finally being able to have a phone call (maybe even a video call), where they tell each other about how things went for them after they parted ways. Now that I'm writing this, I'm also now picturing that the narration in the epilogues were from them telling each other how their lives have been (I haven't seen it in a while, so I don't know for sure how accurate it would be based on what they said, but I still believe they were able to have that conversation anyway.) If the portal could only be open for a limited amount time at once, I could also imagine them being pen pals, and sending letters to each other whenever the portal was open.
