Gracias Fernando. Ojala puedas. Stop press Roberto.. there is a qrp Power amp Kit $30 USD sold by Diz the toroid man in Florida that provides 5 W out (but it can clearly provide 10W by comparison with his now no longer sold 10W linear design) it provides Silicon RF switching which is Definitely what you want for CW. It provides all the outputs for SWR indication .. you provide the meter. What it does not give you is a matching unit. You could at very simplest build your own L- match matching unit for realistically $8USD of components and a whole lot less if you can find a polyvarcon (200pf old transistor tuning capacitor) from a scrapped transistor radio. In order to get the 10 W out you would need to add some bias on the final PA transistors. This is a whole lot technically safer than building up the Mosefet amp and then having to bolt on all the extras to get it working. NB DIZ does not sell the low pass filter parts to go with the kit. You have to select those yourself. Motorola AN 297 and a bit of RF knowledge is all you need for this. Obviously you have to find the right tapping points to get the signal in (RX) and out . YOU Cannot have the three MOSFETS in the PFR running simult UNLESS you dump almost all of the power into a matching resistor set .. so you need to think about having a PA on/OFF switch on the PFR for this use. It is extremely unlikely that the PFR is running more than 3.3W to 3.4 True watts out. Why .. because it is common knowledge that if you run a BS170 above about 1.2 W in class C it will generally not last long. [the current Qrx kit for example is sold on their site as 5W yet the very golden build example specs show 4.0 W out . Some real builds get only 2 W out]. If your true output is 3.3 W then 10 W out would give your signal about 5dB more punch (just under). You can contact me on Engstr AT ..... Netspace Dot Net.au if you want further information- I have worked with other RF before but not the PFR design though it is very clear to me. I have had luck with getting parts shipped from A to B in the USA then B adds his parts and ships the whole lot out. It saves a whole lot on postage and many small vendors are willing to do it... cheers TEF.

By the way Roberto - talking of STEVE Weber designs, Fred at Far circuits has the 75 mtr board for the Weber SSB transmitter , board only. The parts are not too hard to get though in Sth or Central america that might not be the case ..the 10.7 Mhz IF cans can only be had from "Cecil the parts place" in the US and one place in south Australia . The mafr has stopped production which is a real shame... Steve W inidcated to me that there was no problem putting it on 40m with tuned circuit recalc. There are several DDS vfo kits around that will work with it including a bind VFO from Crkits.com in PR china. for $20 USD plus postage. The Vfo or PTO that Weber talks about is bit too much mech engineering when you look at it. ... Prematched filter crystals for a ten Meg IF can be had from Leon at ozQrp.com in Australia if you talk nicely to him for around $12 for a set of three IF crystal and two others for LOsc and Carrier Injection Osc.; you need total five off. Just an idea.
@ys1rs6 жыл бұрын
Wow thanks Timothy for the detail. Yes for us in Central America is not possible to obtain those components. We end up ordering from the US (very expensive shipping) or China (way cheaper but takes long time to receive). Steve Weber designs are excellent. I have enjoyed his kit a lot. The tuner section in this rig is touchy but works once you have the feeling of it. You just can't have enough radios LOL and building them yourself is a huge improvement. Take care.
@timothyfidler20886 жыл бұрын
Probably the best value for money in terms of getting a whole item with a case and so on is the Crkits.com SSB transceiver. However it does have two unnecessary relays. the Ubitx40 at $59 is also good value but you have to add parts, and the basic software needs an upgrade which you can find on Github. (the Allard code). It is not the sort of kit that is easy to hack about as it is all SMD and comes assembled. I have a feeling it is going to be Orphaned as is. BTW there is an excellent frequency counter which Fred at Far circuits made me aware of go to mpja.com and type in frequency counter. $13 USD gets you a 6 digit freq counter .. it is based on a German Freeware design so it cost the PRC people nothing in design work. If you want to add more power to your CW kit look at MOUSEFET transmitter on the web and in partic the PA section. you can get the board and most of the components from Far circuits in the US. The only bits you won't be able to get from Far are the magnetics which will most likely have to come from DIz in Florida. You will have to sort out the QSK circuit yourself. The Texas Topper from the US , if you call up the schema, will give you some ideas for that. The base unit will give you 15W (14V supply) out on 40m with next to no drive. say drive around 80 mW . You will have to pick the best drive point from your PFR. NB the Power amp board is highly optimised. and a whole lot of parts are frequency dependent not just the Low pass filter so if you want two frequencies you have to build two boards.. Also if you run it without a load you will most likely blow the IRF 510. Just an idea. you should be able to do it for around USD 25 to thirty dollars I would guess. Check first that Fred still has the boards. Because CW is not that popular and because the driver board is very old tech , I suspect he still has. cheers,
@timothyfidler20886 жыл бұрын
as far as the Crkits SSB is concerned the CD4053B (all in parallel) analogue switch is your friend for relay replacement. You generally need to run a bipolar supply to use these but you can cheat with an elevated zero as long as the device is capacitively coupled to the in/out circuits. THis CANNOT be used on power RF circuits. you could make up a replacement on a small pcb, even Vero board to replace each of the two relays in the low power RF train. This will make the whole thing a whole lot more reliable. REMEMBER you STILL Need supply volts to run the chip. they cannot be a Pin for pin replacement. If the above makes no sense you will louse it up as you have no EE background . Built the circuit given as IS and do not frig with it or you will be in a sorry state as the PRC kit often use NOS out of production parts. Burn them and the kit is Gone.

Bought one! Initially bought a Wilesco but felt tinny and cheap. Also the whistle had defective threads. Sent it straight back to dealer paid an extra 50 pounds and got a 75. Paint aside it is in a different league to the Wilesco in terms of strength. The consensus on the toy steam forums is that Wilesco have dropped in quality and have niggarly cost cutting: plastic valves and wheels on their steam trucks. I have some British Mamods which are tough little things but the 75 is tougher.

I have nothing to do with them, except that I have had a few engines from them and I have bought spare parts to restore them (I buy them in poor condition... in the only way for to afford them LOL).The best I have is the model 20. Roberto Salazar I've bought one from a UK dealer and love it. Dorita quoted me $100 shipping so lucky to find the UK dealer. I'm not too bothered about the paint. Dealer says if it gets too ugly he can strip it back even after use so no worries. The actual build of the boiler and mechanicals is far better than the Wilesco: much heavier gauge. Not sure about older Wilescos but I sent the D10 ai bought back as it felt so cheap and paid another £50 for this. I prefer quality engineering to surface glitter.

Nice engines but I was speaking to the guy in my hobby store in the UK and he recommended Wilesco over the Jensen as they use bad quality paint on the burner which blackens and peels off after first firing and looks awful. It's a shame. Apparently he rang Jensen to raise this with them and they were pretty offhand with him.
@ys1rs6 жыл бұрын
mattbod Yes he is right. Agree 100%. But on the other side... Jensen’s boilers are silver soldered and not soft soldered like Wilesco. I would recommend Jensen Pro line if you like electrics (kettles). They will outlast any Wilesco on time of service and never burn out the paint. Now, I know we like real fire so... Another recommendation is to remove the ugly pink paint on the Jensen fire house and just leave the pure bare copper or if you like black then paint it with heat resistant black used on barbecues. They look very nice. Just do it before the first run of the engine. Again, that Jensen will be there for generations to come and enjoy with that silver soldered boiler. Quality is amazing except on the paint that burns out with real fire.

Roberto Salazar Ok I'll get one eventually! Not remotely interested in te electric ones. I am a purist. Steam engines should be stoked by flames! No electricity in James Watt/Newcommen's day! As to the paint why do they still use it after all the complaints?
