Great video! Question regarding the Deferred Consideration table Should the model have 9 years of New Deferred Consideration calculations, since we're still acquiring companies in CY2027?
@MintyAnalyst12 күн бұрын
If you want to calculate the deferred considerations till the end, absolutely. I didn't do it, since we only needed the resulting data up to the last year in our model, CY2027

Another amazing video! Loving this course so far! I was a little confused on the use of the 'Recognized Investment' value. Is that line item common in acquisitions?
@MintyAnalyst12 күн бұрын
Hey Brandon, thanks for the comment! I wouldn't say it's common, it's really up to how you want to model things. And the way you model usually comes from the amount of data you have. To be honest, unless it's a specific acquisition, what I've seen most of the time is just slapping an arbitrary number for acquisitions per year. At the end of the day, it's all quite unknown if you don't have specific acquisition targets in mind, so many people prefer not to spend time modeling it.

Perhaps "Net TO" is a more precise basis for calculation.
@MintyAnalyst19 күн бұрын
It really depends on how you have your Chart of Accounts set up. If you have Cost of Sales booked on the Debit side of the Sales account, taking Net Turnover will give you only the Gross margin. Then you'll have to take Credit Turnover for income accounts and Debit for expense accounts. If you don't have cost and sales in the same accounts, taking Net TO is usually faster and better. Especially if you work with a software that doesn't allow negative Debits/Credits and shows any decreases of an account on the Credit side (as QuickBooks does), then Net TO is much better.

Let's say we have $1000 sales on credit with customer ABC currently in the "0-30" bucket. Customer ABC pays $700 on day 30, and enters into dispute for the remaining $300. On day 61, he agrees to pay only $200 of the remaining $300 sitting in the "31-60" bucket. So we know for sure $100 of the $1000 is bad debt. In short 70% goes from "0-30" to "Paid" bucket. & 30% goes to "31-60" bucket 20% goes from "31-60" bucket to "Paid" bucket & 10% goes to "Bad Debt" bucket. How do you track above to fully capture the true cash flow with Excel without aggreating the data?
@MintyAnalystАй бұрын
Hey here, thanks for the comment! 😊 I'm not sure I understand the question - if you want to track the actual cash flows, you wouldn't rely on an ageing analysis, as it is something we use at a certain point, so it's a snapshot, not an overview of continuous cash flows. One way to track the changes is to create an ageing analysis periodically and calculate the changes. However, this becomes a bit tricky, as apart from new invoices and settled ones, you also have jumps from category to category which pollute the overall picture. However, if you have an export of sales you can adjust the change by adding back the sales amount for each customer and be left only with the settlement as a change. Your buckets analysis won't work that well, but you'll know the overall movement and the current categories. As for tracking consecutive transactions per each customer, you can either analyze this on a per customer basis (which won't give you the full AR picture), or you can perhaps export all AR journal entries and summarize new sales/settlements per customer per day/week/month (whatever works). In my opinion, however, this should be something done separately from the ageing analysis. The AR ageing analysis, in my view, is a cash position analysis showing how well we are managing receivables and helping us identify potential issues with collectability, not a running analysis of specific customer balances and settlements. Not sure if this answers your question, but I hope it's helpful 😅
@Loi_VietVietАй бұрын
@@MintyAnalyst There is a need to capture the flows of AR from one bucket to another one so one can apply Markov Chain with absorbing states to the aging of AR to set-up bad debt reserves for financial reporting.

There are videos on YT showing overlays. This is, at best, 80% full sized keyboard.

On my kindle white there is a screw under the black sticky strip on the top which is the only one that is not shown being removed in the video. I ended up cracking the bottom case as I worked the screen out because I thought there was just a stuck part that needed more prying but it was the screw. How to make financial statements from trial balance of a really large company say like Amazon
@MintyAnalyst3 ай бұрын
I would assume they follow a similar approach. Perhaps, in a more complex scenario (e.g. a large public company), you will have a lot more analytical dimensions within accounts, so you might have to export various breakdowns and additional data to build the FS. However, the largest companies I've worked with (way smaller than Amazon, but in the hundreds of millions in revenue) have had automations in their ERPs where a combination of predefined mappings and strict journal entry controls resulted in the FS being pretty much automatically populated (with the exception of some disclosures and more specialized adjustments). However, the concept of mapping a detailed breakdown to a more aggregated view is always the same. Hope this helps 😊

If you copy-paste my scenario, leave the short generic prompts, and publish the first generation with zero editing, then it's exactly that. BUT, if you spend the time to craft the right prompts, and then spend the time to review and edit the generated text, I don't think it's spam, it's just a great time-saving tool.
