@KYFriedHam I have a pocket cw trainer and a mini straight key coming in the mail. For now I just been converting videos off KZbin that plays CW alphabet and play them off my phone. When I get some experience with it, I'm just gonna do it on the air and I'd probably make mistakes, but I don't care. I just as fast as a beltfed machine gun 😂

I just seem to have noise issues with my QMX. It was interesting to see K4SWL in his latest video have similar issues with a factory built unit. I honestly think it has something to do with the AGC, but haven't put my finger on it yet. The TR-35 is a BLAST!

A few nice contacts there. 5 Watts c.w. is plenty. I like the idea of a memory keyer as it can be disheartening sometimes calling CQ and no response for a while. I'll have to see if I can make one. I got an FT817 to go portable but only got out once before covid and conditions were not good and I didn't contact anybody. I've been on 17m and 10m from my home QTH, both great with 1 and 5 Watts c.w. G4GHB.

Thanks for entertaining me on lunch break :) Great activation and nice DX! An 84ft efrw is my goto portable antenna. I like the flexibility and ease of setup. The key is inserting the tuner at the feedpoint like you did here, in my opinion. This way, you don't have coax working in an unmatched impedance situation, so power should theoretically flow freely. Losses seem minimal in my experience. Thanks again for taking us along, OM. 73 de K4FR
@KYFriedHamАй бұрын
Glad you enjoyed it! I agree about feedpoint tuning. I think the longer you have an impedance mismatch, the more loss you will have. I also use a 41' EFRW sometimes but so far, I've had better luck with just 2 pieces of wire!

Is that similar to the SP-4 that CWmorse sells? Can’t really find where to order that M7…
@rabidjackalope1319Ай бұрын
Kept watching… saw that you have to be on a list and it’s at the makers leisure on when he can get some made… roger that… question remains, is the SP-4 similar or is the M7 worth the attempt to acquire
@KYFriedHamАй бұрын
They are similar in form factor but the materials and feel are totally different. Most of the SP-4 is 3d printed while the M7 is aluminum and polycarbonate. You can also have issues depending on your grip with hitting the adjustment screws on the SP-4. Fit, finish and form are all better on the M7. And the touch is feather light on it. If you can only get one, I think the M7 is definitely worth the effort!

Great story about the QMX, glad it's working. If you don't already have one, you need an arborist line with 8 oz throw weight to get your antenna up into a tree. With practice, you should be able to get it over a branch up to about 30 feet on the first or second try.

Great kneeboard for quick and easy POTA activations. I have not fiddle with it enough but I am not able to use the AGC on the QMX (20-10M ) due to interference and thumping. Curious what the audio issue is.

The noise is most likely from the charge controller, they are notorious for producing noise. Also putting the charge controller on the solar panel will reduce the solar output quite a bit, solar panels, especially small/single ones do not like any shade on them as it reduces the effective cell count causing a voltage drop across the panel. Enjoy your videos, hope to work one sometime! 73, Rudi de ZS6DX/ZS2M/ZS1BT/V51VE

Nothing better than those weak signals coming in from Utah! I’m pretty sure I filmed both these QSOs on my side QRP from my backyard. Haha yeah it’s funny I’ve had QSL cards thanking me for getting them Utah. Even had a dude ask me to confirm him in LOTW as Utah was his last state needed. I didn’t know Utah was “rare” but I do now. We’ve definitely got some solid CW dudes here though! Thanks for the QSOs OM!! And nice job bringing a friend. I freaking love that. I love that he commented a few times “I really struggle to copy that speed!” That’s exactly how we all felt at one point.
