Hey Jimmy, archeologists are for the most part social scientists. (And Dave is no exception, yet he's also a personable and knowledgeable guy.) As far as I know, there's not been an analysis of the Kensington Runestone using magnetic sector or isotope ratio mass spectrometry nor X-ray crystallography, which would help determine whether it was actually a slab quarried near Mora and Knife Lake, as some assert. (One interpretation is that the inscription on KR refers to the rock islands in Lake Mille Lacs, where du Luth stopped.) A little more lab-based physical analysis, as opposed to social science, would help refute or bolster either theory. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Doesn't seem like the fetch would be long enough to form a legit long-period groundswell, but...there it is. I guess the Great Lakes don't care too much whether that's supposed to happen or not.

Respect!! ✊🏼 You guys are awesome! The real deal! More stoked and dedicated to surfing than so many living in ideal surf spots. I’m so fascinated with this region; I wanna surf there to say I did it, but it seems finicky and hard to predict. If I plan to make the drive to catch a swell up there, it’s not like watching weather buoy days in the oceans to plan. How or when can I know I’ll score if I make the trip?

Here is a story for you: in the summer of 1965, I was taking a history class at the St. Loius County Historical Society in Duluth. We went on a few field trips, one was to this mine the day before it was officially opened by the governor. The miners told us we couldn't tell anyone about our visit since it technically wasn't open yet. Somewhere in a box my Mother has a picture taken of us on the surface when we returned from being in the mine. I will be 72 this year, so I doubt that any of the old timers that were there are still alive.

These are the things that preserved our nation. Few of the youth today have any appreciation of the blood that has been spilled through history to bring the Constitutional liberties we enjoy today. And for those who don't know, the template for liberty came from "the doctrine of Christ." Therefore, those who fight against our Constitutional liberties fight against the Author of Liberty. Without the life of Christ, none of us would be here today. Make no mistake!

This experiment will show how much change these peat forests can take before they collapse, die and start releasing the carbon they have absorbed. Spruce is one of the species that our softwood lumber comes from. The term Spruce-Pine-Fir is used as they all have similar characteristics from construction. The following tree species are used as "softwood lumber" in North America: Douglas Fir. Douglas Fir. Eastern White Pine. Eastern White Pine. Hem-Fir. Hem-Fir. Ponderosa Pine. Ponderosa Pine. Redwood. Redwood. Southern Pine. Western Red Cedar. Additionally, the issue of decaying organic matter will release Carbon and this change is also being studied under controlled conditions... Needless to say, the future of our forests has serious implications for housing, air quality, recreation, wildlife, etc. etc...

He's already forgone his conclusion. How does he know if the warmer peatlands wont grow faster and bigger in a longer growing season and thus store more carbon? Junk science.
@thegadphly327511 ай бұрын
Nice intro, where are the results. I venture to say that greenhouses with higher CO2 levels would thrive... oh, they didn't say that out loud.. riiiiight...
@davidhollenshead489211 ай бұрын
Your ignorance shows as there they are looking for the tipping point when the ecosystem fails. This loss has already occurred in similar peat forests, but without being measured like in this experiment. The University of Michigan School of Natural Resources has already found that increasing CO2 resulted in larger Quaking Aspen leaves that supported much lower numbers of Caterpillars...

I am so happy you can still enjoy getting out & being active especially in nature is so healing to one’s soul. I can’t figure out anyway of being upright, either standing or sitting I can’t be up even a minute bc so many CSF leaks from sacral Arachnoiditis, tarlov cyst that ruptured post surgery due to advanced EDS and CRPS in same sacral nerves that has spread throughout my body including my teeth. No Neurosurgeon can help with so many issues and diseases, surgical injuries, etc. Been bedridden 8 years now. Pain is excruciating as my hip has also completely been torn from my body, ligaments hamstrings everything has detached, sacrum on chunks of boney pieces. I actually had surgery with the “World’s Top TCD SURGEON “ twice but he didn’t share I had these diseases except TCD. He knew, admitted to me yes he didn’t tell me bc he doesn’t have to share any diagnosis except TCD & hoped he could help me out.” Took me years going to every Specialist in California for these CSF leaks but I’m damaged too badly for anyone to touch me. Even a needle stick damage ms a hole in my tissue as big as my fist. It’s a long suffering with one’s body on FIRE, like someone poured Kerosene in and outside of my body and set it on fire with kerosene. I’m trying to find some way to beat GRAVITY! Swimming pool doesn’t help except floating but my skin can’t toys anything at all. I just can’t figure out how to beat gravity and have a life again. Anyone have any ideas. And no Ketamine Infusions don’t help. I don’t know why but the to pain specialist at all University’s etc have said it wouldn’t. I’m desperate and tried them anyway. Doctors are right. There has to be some way to overcome gravity. God Bless.
