Such a bluesy swell tune! Eddie Harkness and his orchestra was a fine San Francisco band that was hired to play in the Marc Hopkins Hotel when it opened in 1927. Thankyou for posting Eddie's exceptional Victor record!

So nice to have access to these little known R&H treasures. One complaint: the word Ms. Rae sings as "valet" is actually 'varlet' (rhymes with 'scarlet')

Speaking of tears...I'm sobbing my way through Jane Powell's touching rendition of this evergreen standard by the great Vincent Youmans (with able help from lyricist Edward Heyman). I wish you many more upvotes and favorable comments!

Love her!! I loved her in Nashville crying over Bobby Kennedy’s death, as Sally Field’s mom losing her hearing in Norma Rae, a gossipy kleptomaniac in Ladies of the Corridor, a concerned woman caring for a child with ESP The Twilight Zone episode Mute, a lead in Norman Lear’s series about women executives All That Glitters, so many other wonderful characterizations. I didn’t know she could sing! Is this from a Broadway show? Thanks for posting!

Awesome Harmonizing! Awesome Musical Arrangement! Awesome Orchestrations! Awesome Vocalizations! Puff the Magic Dragon Lives Forever exactly like the song, The Unicorn recorded by the singers and musicians, The Irish Rovers! Both Puff the Magic Dragon and the Unicorn frolic and swim together in the magic land of people like me who have always believed and never stop believing ever since childhood since my god aunt gave me this same 45 record and cover brand new in 1981 when I was three and listen to it. I was born in the late fall of 1978. I Love this recording and cover! I still have both the 45 record and the cover. Both still in good shape. On the B side: Loch Ness, a wonderful song about the Loch Ness in Scotland!

This is from the Richard Rodgers (both music and lyrics) musical No Strings. Beverly and Art starred in the London production. A hit in its day (the NY production won multiple Tony Awards and an Original Cast Grammy, and ran for almost 600 performances on B'way) it is largely overlooked today. This is the best remembered song and would be recycled into the inferior Brandy version of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella 35 years after the original production of No Strings closed

Gets my vote for favorite rendition, in no small part because of the diminished-chord conclusion of the vocal which always adds so much to any song's rendition, to my ears. I should mention I thought Mabel Mercer recorded a fine version in more recent years.

Hi, BlondieJohnson. Where did you get the info that this was written for Peter Pan? I have to admit that I'm finding this a bit unlikely. I know that it was never in the show during the out-of-town tryout, during which there were major changes to the score. And I can't figure out who in the show would have sung it or what situation it might have fit.
@BlondieJohnsonMusic

The New York Public Library, Wikipedia, etc. It was not used does not mean that it was cut in tryouts. It just wasn't used.

@@BlondieJohnsonMusic, thanks for replying. In response, I will first say that wikipedia is not a reliable source. It's filled with misinformation. But I did go to the wikipedia page about Charlap, which does say, as you mentioned, that the song was written for Peter Pan. But the page provides no source for that information. Besides, I have sometimes gone to sources provided on wikipedia and found that whoever wrote that part of a particular wikipedia page misunderstood or misrepresented what was written in the source. Second, I went to the NYPL Carolyn Leigh page that lists the song, and it doesn't say that the song was written for Peter Pan. The title of the song is above the listing of songs Leigh and Charlap wrote for Peter Pan. I'm linking the page that I found. If the page you found is a different one, please link it. Also, I meant to make it clear that I understand that just because the song wasn't used in tryouts doesn't mean that it wasn't written for the show, but I see that I didn't make that clear. Here is that NYPL link. www.nypl.org/sites/default/files/archivalcollections/pdf/musleigh.pdf
