To be honest, this setup sounds like shit. WAY TOO OVER PROCESSED. Talk about listener fatigue!. You want loud, then get an Omnia 11, loud and pleasing to the ears. Hell even an old Optimod 8282 can sound better!. Texar's were not meant to be driven like that. Any PD or Ops Manager, hell even a GM would say this air chain sounds like shit!.

8100 with Texar Prisms will always sound unique. This is 50uS set? Because it sounds more brighter than all 8100 on air i've ever heard

After about 25+ years in commercial bdct I still like these. For one thing.. they give you a good understanding of the order things should be done in. In today's world, you kids see a "one box does all" solution to a lot of things, including audio processing. You miss one way of doing that . with discreet products... and in LAYERS. Look at the front of these units.. you have a low band, presence, highs, etc all broken out plus each has a good visual indicator of whether it's getting a minimum signal, if it's in comression, etc. I still have a set of these, plus the book at home which came off the air at a commercial FM many moons ago. I replaced the dated Texars with an Aphex processing chain. Yes, I got an excellent sound out of the Aphex (tho it did NOT by itself "add to our coverage area" lol like the adverts said it would). I had to use one box for watching the levels, one box for your basic eq and crossover points, one box for compression & limiting, one box for stereo generator with the final limiter / clipper in it doing the same thing you see in Orban with it's density / limit knobs... Then came the age of the MP3's... Yes, with equipment like either the Prism or the Aphex or Orban... even the most tone deaf will hear the degrading effects of MP3's in a side by side comparison ggg

i have a pair of gentner prism ii's in my home entertainment system with a crl tvs-3001 tri-band agc in front of them, and the sound is amazing... it makes mediocre speakers sound awesome. very happy that all of this old 'obsolete' analog broadcasting gear that can't be remote-controlled ended up being sold off cheaply to people like myself who really appreciate the design and construction of these units and their capabilities.

You need to play the "Theme from Moonlighting" by Al Jarreau when setting audio. Has one of the widest dynamic ranges from lows to highs you can have on a recording. Even has a triangle, which is super HF.

DISCUSS THE QUESTION BUT CAN SOMEONE BE SO FRIENDLY TO EXPLAIN ME FOR Q WORKS THE XT2? I HAVE AN ORBAN 8100 ON MY STATIONER WITHOUT THE XT2 AND I WANT TO KNOW IF I CAN WORK IT WITHOUT THIS PART OF THE TEAM. THANK YOU. I AM FROM VENEZUELA.

the 8100 has a basic limiter, the xt2 chassis expands it into a 6-band limiter. if your airchain has a lot of compression or loudness like a commercial top-40 station, then you need the additional limiting capability but if you aren't going for that sound, the 8100 by itself is excellent provided it is set up properly.

I have a pair of these that work, though they could probably use a re-cap as they have not been in service in many years. They are missing the texar cover plate where the adjustment pots are. If you are still looking, shoot me a message and I can snap some pics. I would entertain a reasonable offer.

Ah man. Never saw the notification of your reply. Have yet to have luck finding a pair of these, perhaps even given up. But, given that I didn't ever receive a notification for your reply, I evidently have bad luck when it comes to getting a pair. I'm not too skilled in the YT arena, as I see no way to contact you, if they're even still around of course.

Groet , Peter Meijdam

What do this do exactly?
@marzsit9833
@marzsit9833 5 жыл бұрын
it's a multiband compressor, a noise gate and noise filter. it makes the audio sound louder and eliminates hissing from audio tapes and vinyl records and softens the extended "ess" sound in vocals. it's a mono unit so you need a pair of them for stereo, they can be linked together so that both units operate in phase with each other which prevents phase cancellations and other audio ugliness.

I have a Berhringer Ultra-Dyne Pro. As well as a single compressor limiter. I use stereo tool in the computer for high frequency protection. I don't have any Optimods. I am looking for an Optimod at a reasonable price because I don't want to pay thousands of dollars for an audio processor. I'm only a small part 15 broadcaster and an online station.

ryan look for an optimod-tv model 8182a. it was used in television broadcasting and when all stations changed to digital, all of them became unusable for broadcasting even as a backup. the 8182a is based off the 8100 fm optimod and shares most of the same components with a few differences, no fm stereo generator in the tv version but the tv version does have a superior limiter board called a hilbert clipper that the fm optimod doesn't have. the compressor boards are the same. they can be had for next to nothing, i got mine for a case of beer :) but i see them for sale around $200 for a working unit. add a fm stereo generator and it will work for fm broadcasting, or use it as-is for podcasting or webcasting. or connect it to your home stereo. all of the optimod-tv units are brown. there are 2 other units that look similar, one is a sap generator, the other is a mts stereo generator, those units are pretty much useless for anything other than parts. make sure you verify model 8182a.

actually, hip-hop/r&b is the best source music for testing and setting up processors like this. very percussive with high and low frequencies and male/female voices. the reason the xt2 chassis was needed was because bob orban, the designer of the optimod, only listens to classical music. so the 8100 was somewhat behind when it was introduced.

@NightAire Ur welcome.. I do prefer the older Texar units. The originals although they share the same design, they are quite different in sound Genter used different capacitors in timing, filter and x-over
@fakeradioNL
@fakeradioNL 12 жыл бұрын
@BudWiser999 not all true. Gentners builded them better. the PCB' s were better, power supply's more stable, but they had a different sound. Gentner used cheaper capacitors in the filter designs..

Wow... impressed with how well they handle today's squashed audio... that's a heckova competitive sound! I'd also forgotten the signature high-frequency sound of a Gentner... it makes this stuff sound pretty darn good! Thanks for sharing this demo.
