you've described a for loop for each port, determine if there is room to store something it starts at the top (the preferred port of the assembler) and works it's way down makes sense that the assemblers preferred port would be on top and the refinery's would be on the bottom the biggest revelation from this test is that if the next adjacent block is not inventory-compatible (like the O2H2), then it is skipped entirely. the sorting algo doesnt waste operations searching further than that when other ports are available, which is exactly how you'd expect a programmer to design it

Yo I don't follow you on adding more complexity to the base principles would make a better game. Instead I would develop things like: Multigrid (example proper guiding rails with carts, proper driving for them, stronger and bigger rotating links, in order to make usable legs and of course a special automaton bloc to drive legs). Wheels : they don't work. I mean because you cant introduce Ackerman compensation (in a turn, interior wheel should turn a bigger angle than outer wheel in order for both to follow the rover trajectory. In SE if you set grip to 100% your rover just stops when you turn or bounce everywhere depending on its mass) Because they are weak compared to rover mass you must use plenty of wheels and then it is a mess. At least half of the wheels are moving sideways and slowing the rover in a turn. OF COURSE mission content and general life in SE. I would happily get rid of all ore chunks and small blocs flying everywhere AND klang mecanic altogether to spare server CPU and get real life in SE. A mission tree like Empyrion and some serious NPC to challenge.

Good content. I really like the whole progression of building up the ship from the core onwards. However, with the constant cuts in the video jumping around, it started to honestly give me a bit of a headache. I'd be looking at one part of the ship and suddenly the video would cut. While horizontal ships are fun, I find them useful only in space. For planets I started building my miners vertical (in the direction of the gravity) and I have never built a horizontal miner since. Just give it a try... For miners that will work both in space and planets I create a vertical ship but have multiple cockpits. So the ship will have equally strong reverse and up lift.
@DanSher
@DanSher Ай бұрын
The ores are distributed horizontally in the deposit, you can easily dig out a vertical hole while you're empty, but you need to mine the deposit horizontally, unless your miner is large enough to mine it in a single vertical hole
@themoss7115
@themoss7115 Ай бұрын
Horizontal miner can also save some components and power. Most vertical miners need enough thrusters to lift full load on 2 directions (upwards and backwards). More thrusters = more weight = even more thrusters = more power consumption = more batteries = more bulk (+ lots of drills and "ugliness"). Also, vertical miners needs to drill through a lot of dirt and stone just to mine a thin layer of ore. And if you want to mine more, you need another hole through that junk again. It's better to drill one hole to the right depth and then mine the vein horizontally. You can absolutely make wonderful vertical miner with two cockpits or remote control to achieve same thrust:cargo ratio, but horizontal miners are more convenient.
@DanSher
@DanSher Ай бұрын
@@themoss7115 yeah, generally you want to have a single main thrust direction (upwards in pretty much all cases) and have only enough thrust in other directions for smaller velocity adjustments while performing larger maneuvers by rotating the ship
@Toughbeard
@Toughbeard Ай бұрын
@@themoss7115 I think I understand. If I am to stay only on the planet it is better to have a horizantal miner because of the way the veins are. Thin but large diameter cylinder vs the asteroids where they are Cylindrical in shape smaller diameter but longer in length. And when in Space the vertical and horizantal really means nothing :) This is quite a different approach from how I play and its exciting... This is exactly why I love Space Engineers so much. Change just variable and its a whole new game...

I always thought they could've diversified the types of grid available. Such as triangular, hexagonal or any type that would deviate from the cube nature of them. It would be great if there were 'alien' grids or blocks which could be part of an improved pve experience or 'goal'. Although it's a sandbox game it needs more of a narrative, just like how Minecraft does

I 100% agree with the point about DLC blocks. Although most of them are not pay-to-win, some do have a slight advantage over the vanilla alternative. For workshop items, there should at least be a decent build-in converter that manages to replace certain DLC blocks with vanilla counterparts or armor so the ships at least work when pasted in. I know this is possible with blueprint editing using notepad or SE toolbox to some extend, but that is not possible with every block. Did you notice that the warfare thrusters are completely messed up in terms of their block orientation when compared to vanilla and sci-fi ion thrusters? How did this go unnoticed even after release of the DLC?
@erinas

Na he is right, I already don't bother to go survival if plan to play SE every few years. For me ist just testing the new DLCs while building something epicly big and after that the game is dead to me for another 2-3 years. Cuz there is not much to do. Survival had become very boring very fast. And althou space is a empty place does not mean the game has to feel empty. But sadly in SE that is the case. If i want physics i go cerbal space program, if i want content i can go No Man Sky which has every big content update for free. Or whatever new stuff is out there and he already mentioned better building related games so the only thing which lets me keep starting SE now and then is nostalgia. Imo SE was good to kick that particular genre forward and after all the other devs realized that these kinds of game can make decent money SEs job was done. Btw i hate the lighting mechanics in SE which make big builds very difficult. So yea i think he summerized it pretty accurate.

Space Engineer's strengths are the versatile engine with probably one of the best moding ui and api. Their planets are good but need more better stitching and crafting. The few missions they offer are great, but i wish they were more closely integrated into eachother and the main survival. They have bugs and wolfs, and even the ai within different missions or outposts, but I think they need to add more pve. Sure, there is a lot of dlc, but each one of those also mark a major update to the base game. be it the new ai logic, new planets, game mode, combat overhaul(sure it's not ballanced, but they are working on other aspects of the game too.) Each dlc is for players to help keep the devs employed and working on the game, which they are, something you can't say for most games.

most people mis-understand SE... KSH has stated many times that it is "Lego Technic in space".. when you 'play' with lego, you build your play enviroment using the blocks provided you may even include items that are not lego (i know R2-D2 was involved in some on my lego plays) it states on the load up of SE that it is a sand box its the PUREST sand box you can load onto a PC (and Keen have announced that the next DLC/update will include improvements to PVE)
@grayfaux_
@grayfaux_ 18 күн бұрын
It is the SE that misunderstand the players. We hear what Keen is saying, but does Keen here what we are saying? Once you build your lego ship there is nothing to do with it. If they spent a fraction of the time on survival and the world as they do on microtransactions the game would be a 10/10.
@KemPeck1701

@@grayfaux_ ok.. you have some good points.. but.. i have to ask... why do you think they opened up the game for modding then.. as EARLY as they did?... one answer would be so YOU can create the game play of YOUR choice.. as if you are playing with lego and adding toys from another set/genre etc.. you get to create your own play through, your way.. as for the DLC argument.. i'm sorry.. but i dont think you get that either.. they released the game on console, to increase the playability of the game (always a good thing.. dont you think?).. which dont have a mods system.. and from what i can see, will never be able to have one because of the way consoles work.. so since then, KSH has been actively talking to the original mod authors to include a veriant of the mod to the base game.. (it is now possible to make, for example, a working hover bike that works exactly like the hover mod block.. i know.. my friend is about to release it on the workshop.. 100% vanilla) because they have included (for free) the ability to do so.. the dlc might, some would argue, have slightly different functionality but are primarily cosmetic, so dont really change game play.. but anything that DOES change game play comes free.. you DONT have to buy the dlc to even interact with the dlc blocks.. you just cant place them.. all they do is ASK if you want to buy some new looking blocks to compesate their work.. they ARE a business you know.. the bills do have to be paid to me your mind set comes from the time where KSH DID make some bad mistakes.. but.. they most definately have upped their game since.. i know.. i have 4000+ hours playing.. and have watch far far more hours of youtube vids by many content creators

If you want pve or coop gameplay you can download a load of mods and even edit them to do what you want. The thing that makes SE so good is it has the combination of things like sure if you just take 1 aspect of any game there is another game that does it better but very few games have so much stuff. Your weird obsession with hating the dlcs is so irrational like you can play perfectly fine without them and ignore their existence there the most op dlc blocks make your ship like 0.1% better in the incredibly niche pvp.
