I enjoyed seeing these videos . It was long ago that i was there . Back in the mid-70s, the big race was the 3rd week of February, 3 weeks before the Gatornationals . All the big names were in attendance . Blue Max , Showtime , jungle jim , Snake 🐍 Don Garlets, etc . Priceless memories 👍

I remember going there with all my friends on Thursday nights and Saturday nights. Does anyone remember Wild Man Racing they had a bad ass Ford Pinto my best friend Charlie Keyes AKA Bubba Keyes working for them they worked on the Hollywood PD vehicles. Bubba had a black Z28 with orange stripes. We were broken hearted when they closed the track down. To be honest there’s a good chance we were at this we went there so much.

Frank Masameano Loose as a goose, I used to call him a ,no Nintendo drag racer, no transbrake, just a man and the tree! Old school like! Al Pope Blast from the past Robert Snoball Russ young Young Performance He used to build cars for people, and to say they were fast, would be severely understated! I remember one night he showed up with a Beautiful Camaro in the super pro staging lane,I was on break from my tower duties And was down there saying hello to everyone, any way This car was an animal! He had built for these black guys all of them severely heavy ladened with gold chains! You could tell they were rolling in cash! The car was beautiful! It was missing one thing, Wheelie bars! I said hey Russ, hey man,he said hey , I said nice car, but where’s the wheelie bars! He said, I told them, when I built it for them, but they said it was a street car and they didn’t want them on it! This car was a beast! They had it built for match racing out on Highway 27 for giant sums of cash! So Russ was dialing it in for them! He pulls up to the line, does a burn out that would rival any top fuel funny car for smoke and sound! He stages loads the NOS system, he had them do a pro tree! He nails it, the car stands straight up, and I mean straight up, so much so ,that it bent the license plate over the rear bumper of a 67 or 68 Camaro ! He tries to bring it down lightly, by feathering the throttle, but failed to get a real soft landing, down it came, sparks flew from under the car from the final impact! But he still basically idles thru the long end at like 11:00 seconds! Meanwhile all these guys he had built the car for were ecstatic! They were all pumped up yelling, Yeahhhhhhh , Street car! I saw Russ a couple of weeks later, he told me when he got to their pit area, he went to back up ,and the transmission fell out from under it, and the headers were crimped almost closed! Some time later he came back with wheelie bars on that Camaro, and ran a high five, or low six second pass in the 1/4 mile! Like I said it was a beast! YOUNG PERFORMANCE! Get in and hang on! Robert Clarke Shade Tree racing Was a Mopar guy through and through! Plus he built a Harley drag bike, and other projects like a shortened frame Chevy blazer, with a 400 Chevy motor ,with a Volkswagen Beetle bug body, named Fahrvergnugen, that he used for mud racing Plus a 340 powered front engine dragster, with a 5500 stall converter. The good old days! Tom Glick Helter skelter, he had an alcohol injected, 327 Fiat Topolino, that car was a handful to drive, hence the name Helter Skelter! Jason Bailey AKA the Meat Man! I think he ran a hopped up Primer gray, 1966 Tempest or Lemans, and it was fast fast fast! Just some of the names I remember!!! Sorry, if I butchered the spellings! These were all really cool approachable people! Never too busy to talk I used to love it when the racers from, Miami Hollywood motor sports park would go up to West Palm, and Totally dominate at that larger facility! These people could cut a light! There were way more just can’t remember! Last time I was there was summer of 1989! Great place! What a shame it’s gone now! I had some really good times here!
