It's almost 50 years since I been to Largs and saw a basking shark. Ayrshire often gets overlooked when people think of Scotland but it's got some of the most beautiful places

The building at 2:38 I spent a lot of Friday nights and Sunday afternoons in. It's mentioned elsewhere as being called the South Bay Hotel. My miss-spent was early eighties when it was called the Picketlaw Hotel. Prior to that it was called the Sherwood Hotel. We'd clear the place out on Friday nights with our appalling choice of music on the jukebox.

Sadly the Day trip fishing boats from the beach stopped years ago. Thanks dad for the experience. Loved it.

I was born & raised in Pollok. When? Well all males had to do 2 years National Service in the military. All the buses were open "back enders" (great!), my 2 schools: McGill Primary was 1 year old, Crookston Castle 3 years old! (Both now gone.) And where the impressive Silverburn now is, was the "Bundy" flats, next to an age care facility on Boydstone Road!

I loved hanging out and playing pool with friends in the back bar of the South Bay Hotel, when I was a teenager in the '90s. It was a great place for a quiet drink in the summer. I remember being gutted when it closed down.

One of the few towns like Prestwick down the coast to keep its character by keeping it's small shops and long promenade. Sadly like Prestwick it has lost some hotels on the seafront. They both have Wetherspoons and fish n chip shops!
@Rr0gu3_5uture6 ай бұрын
By the early to mid 80s, most of the hotels had lost all their business because of the foreign holiday market. Some of the smaller ones survived, due to day trippers and the like. The Castle, Queens, Marine & Curlinghall were demolished, and others like the South Bay and Elderslie were converted into flats.

Glasgow's a dump, I know this, lived there all my life, going down the tubes like heading for third world status. It was once a city to be proud of, not anymore sadly.
