Great Video. I had my Beaver meat , venison meat , and turkey meat tainting in jars for only 4 days in 75 degree temperature in my garage . I just added the sodium benzoate . And man does it stink to where i wanted to throw up. Is that normal or did it possibly get bad ? It looks fine but is super rugged in smell.
@NobleSavageOutdoors
@NobleSavageOutdoors 6 күн бұрын
4 days in 75 degree temperature is pretty typical. However, when done correctly, tainted meat smells but not nearly as bad as rotten meat. Rotten meat gives me that immediate urge to gag and throw up, whereas tainted meat is typically not pleasant to smell but doesn't make me necessarily want to throw up immediately. This is all a bit subjective and difficult to quantify, because there is some tolerance build up to these smells when dealing with them often vs the first time. Based off what you described, it sounds like it went a little too far in the tainting vs rotting process. Maybe the peak temp was higher than 75 at times during the day (it is important to know peak temp because it's more of an exponential increase rather than linear as you get higher in temp.) So all that to say, it's just nasty smelling meat, if you have more you can taint, throw this stuff out. If not, use it as is or dilute it with some extra fresh meat. I've used more rotten than tainted meat and had success. I've heard with rotten meat you risk catching more possums, but personally, I think if the possums are around, they will find my sets anyway. Hope that helps. Good luck and tight chains!

Dying a trap has nothing to do with camouflage. If that's why you are dying them, don't waste your time. Your trap could be pink bedded in a trap bed. No coyote will give a shit. Dying traps is about the chemical reaction the tannins have on the rust. Dying traps 💯 % for rust protection. Also the logwood dye you bought and used last year is cheaper than the "free" leaves you used here due to the amount of extra propane cost you incurred boiling them down to be usable.

I have been using these traps, mini marshmallows work well, Sprinkle a few around the trap, and a couple in the trap. The screw in dog stakes work well to hold them. Got two last night, cubs, Momma and the other two will be next. We have cats, and they are not interested in the marshmallows.

Another great bait to use is marshmallows. I cut a whole marshmallow in half and pack them in the bottom of the trap below the trigger. I can set each trap with just one mallow! 👍🦝👍

People who think trapping raccoons is cruel have never been the victim of nuisance raccoons. They may look cute and cuddly but they're natural born thieves and very destructive. Please don't ever feed them because they'll plague you night and day. 😮

If you go near a wild canine den they will move their pups and abandon the Den.

I know it can happen, but I also know that just because you go near a den does not mean they "will" move their pups. There are a ton of different factors that would dictate whether or not the adults feel threatened enough to move. This example with trail camera footage proves that they don't do it every time.

(Wife typing) Thank you for this video! Something caught my eye in the terracing of a farm field about half a mile away. We've had a fox terrorizing and picking off our poultry one by one over the years, but have never been able to locate his den. Until today! Without being there near it in person yet, it meets all the requirements you list here. Good to know what direction he/she is coming from. Thank you!
@NobleSavageOutdoors
@NobleSavageOutdoors 5 ай бұрын
Thanks, I'm glad you could use the information. Some more good information that ive learn is that some fox den locations can remain active for years, and some can change rather frequently. I suspect it has something to do with territory. I've seen multiple times where a fox dens pops up close to an existing older den, then the very next year that new den is abandoned. I have also seen dens (like the older one I was talking about in this video) that were active for a few years, abandoned maybe a year or 2, then active again for a while which means different foxes moved and made it their home. It sounds like that may be the case for you as well. I have chickens and turkeys as and have had pretty good luck keeping them safe from foxes (raccoons and fishers have been a different story). Good luck with your poultry!

I took a chicken frier and filled it half packed full with maple and oak leaves. Then added just enough water to cover them and turned on the burner. Different pot of vinegar and salt + traps no burner. Waited 2 hours and stirred both occasionally. Took out the traps and tossed them in with the leaves and pushed them to the bottom. Worked pretty good in my opinion.
