Is it adaptable for leather upper material? Oxford and corduroy are good, but I feel more like leather. Is it possible to get pattern for non-commercial use?

I think leather will be okay. But it is necessary to skim its edge. And sorry, I don’t distribute the pattern for any purpose at this time.

Thank you for your comment! I haven’t researched it in detail. They seem to be released from the shoulder load, but in compensation, users need their trunk inclined to stable the position of the center of gravity of the upper body and pack. Also, their neck motion should be restricted.

Great video, second time I'm watching it probably not the last. I am designing my own backpack att the moment and will definitely incorporate some of your design ideas. Is there a purpose to the curve where the shoulder straps attaches to the lower portion of the back panel? or just a design feature? also how necessary are the aluminium bars? isn't the plastic sheet sturdy enough on its own?
@BackpackResearcher2 ай бұрын
Thank you for your comment. The curve of the shoulder strap end did not depend on engineering, but just my preference. Then, regarding the panel core, if you want the back gap for ventilation, the panel needs stiffness in the vertical direction. If you use only a plastic sheet for the panel core, it might be bent when you put heavy stuff in the bag.

Hi! I am currently binging your fantastic videos, thanks you for taking the time to produce them. Can you explain the point of the polyethylene piece/panel between the shoulder straps please? Thanks, Scott
@BackpackResearcher4 ай бұрын
Thank you for your comment. The polyethylene piece was used for a core to hide the gap between sewing margin of shoulder straps and middle of the back panel. If I sewed it with only a fabric part, the shape of sewing margins of shoulder straps would have appeared on the surface because the margins were thick.

I strongly recommend you to buy proper hot knife instead of the thing you use, which is basically a long soldering iron with the blade attachment. There are two problems here - first, you have a huge distance between your hand and the blade. The real hot knife has a blade much closer to your hand (much better control) and with better ergonomic angle. Second, good hot knives have a built-in LED light that is turned on when you activate the heat so you see what you cut much better
@BackpackResearcher5 ай бұрын
Thanks for your comment. Yes, the distance between fingers and the blade should be shorter. So, would you tell me your recommend hot knife brand and model number? I want to handle it like pen or cutter.

@@BackpackResearcher I use hsgm heißschneider hot knife, bought it many years ago after researching the American DIY tactical gear forum. It never failed me
@BackpackResearcher5 ай бұрын
Thanks for the information. I have checked it before I bought. The ways of holding are ergonomically different between these two types. In precise work, it would be better to hold the knife with the index finger and thumb like pen or art knife. And cut a workpiece by moving the fingers and wrist. So, in Japan, the pen type is more common for hot knives. There seems to be a demand for plastic model cut. Regarding your recommended model, I think it is suitable for rough and heavy work, or wide area work because it cuts a workpiece due to moving the wrist and upper arm. These are as different as art knife and heavy duty utility knife. So, I selected former one. If I cut ropes, I will select your recommended type. It depends on individual preference. I hope many viewers who are considering whether to buy will watch this exchange. Thank you for your watching and comment, again.

Friend, there is no need to melt the cut edge of the Velcro tape with lighter. Velcro is woven in the way so its not fraying along the perpendicular edge (unlike webbing). Its fraying only along the long edges and it is held by proper dense weave and PU coating n the wrong side. I am the gear designer for 15 years, also I visited the hook and loop factory and Ive seen the machines that make hook and loop

Thanks. As you mentioned, it can tear horizontally depends on cut. It actually occurred when I was making. So, I did that treatment resorting to a sure means. Today, I asked a sample maker about this. He said he doesn’t do that. But I asked a person who is in charge of production management of a factory, and he said it does heat cut velcro for the purpose of both cutting and fray stopping. So, you can decide to do depending on whether you care about it or not.

The pad shape and thickness have some effects; load distribution, making a gap for ventilation, less interference with upper arm motion, and etc. And a preferable design should differ its purpose. i saw an article about a backpack that was designed for soldiers to carry heavy weights. the bag part of the backpack slid up and down on a pair of rails attached to the straps and apparently this significantly reduced the discomfort while walking/running
@BackpackResearcher Жыл бұрын
Is it a suspended-load backpack? I think that the original purpose of this type is to convert the dynamic oscillation load into the vertical component with slide mechanism and then, to generate electricity to reduce battery weight for communication equipment in military. So, the slide device is too heavy itself and in static situation, user supports extra weight for it. If you take its benefit of load reduction, you have to keep moving.
@cvspvr Жыл бұрын
@@BackpackResearcher no, i think it USES electricity. it's called the hoverglide. the backpack "floats" it's mid air so that you have a constant load on you rather than an oscillating up and down load
@BackpackResearcher Жыл бұрын
On the other hand, in my invention, the weight of the movable lumbar pad is about only 250 grams. And in both static and dynamic situations, it distributes the backpack load to the lower back and reduces shoulder load.
@BackpackResearcher Жыл бұрын
It doesn’t use electricity, but it is derived from the technology for an energy harvesting backpack. Check below. www.hoverglidepacks.com/our-story www.nature.com/articles/4441023a

@@BackpackResearcher ah, yeah, i guess i was wrong. that's pretty cool that it doesn't need electricity. your invention is pretty cool too, but the hoverglide seems more comfortable. your invention has good load distribution, but i assume the load distribution would fluctuate when you're running (although the fluctuation would be less than a normal backpack). i'm not hating. i think your invention is great!

Very nice, exactly what I was looking for. I'm building a modular yoke system for a hunting lumbar belt. I want to be able to remove the rear straps and add different packs where the straps attach. Some small packs for day trips, some with an internal frame and large for over night. Look at Marsupial Packs, my design is similar but not an exact copy. My lumbar belt is set up for the gun range as well.
@BackpackResearcher Жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comment. If shoulder straps and back panel are exchangeable, they can demonstrate their performance whenever users use any pack bodies. And I think that MYOG is the best way to realize the gear specs that match user’s body shape or taste of fitting.

@BackpackResearcher Жыл бұрын
Wow, are you an engineer or something? I want tell you that this pad doesn’t need a rich form pad for hip belt. When you want to distribute the pack load to the lower back more, it only needs drawing the pack to your body. So connecting a thin, rather flexible, belt to this lumbar pad, you can experience more comfortable carrying!

@@BackpackResearcher Does this mean: the pad is held tighter to the body with a hip belt OR the hip belt should pull the pack closer to the body? Would this not restrict the pads ability to move?
@BackpackResearcher6 ай бұрын
@sim-pit It meant both. I think that the hip belt is to properly fasten the backpack to the user body. And the lumbar pad works for its interfacial treatment between the body and pack to transfer the load. By the sliding and rotating mechanism, this movable pad made keeping pack position and not interfering walking motion compatible.
