There were countries outside the criminal Soviet bloc, that dispersed iodine tablets to school children as 'early' as fully two weeks after the accident, because of the delays caused by cover ups, causing tens of thousands of cancers in these children and none of these 'politicians' ever got prosecuted.

This will be a forever problem because the new shell will eventually need to be replaced or covered over too. Russia needs to pay the entire bill with interest.
