@JeffNies Жыл бұрын
The offensive team has a right to squeal. The runner should have never reached third. She is out on the steal, out on leaving early and out for interference, even though she cleared ahead of the ball in time for the defense to make a play on the ground ball. She still interfered with the initial attempt of the shortstop to make a play on the ball.

First…it’s a two man crew. There are no great positions for the first and second call in two man crew. Call one from the camera angle looks like a tag but I have learned the hard way it is NOT conclusive from that angle. Only working in a wedge would you know for sure. Call two… cannot fault an Ump in a two man crew, especially with runner not stealing for missing runner being 5 inches off the base. (She looked off the base on the ball that was put in play as well. Call three…only one defensive player can be protected and it is the player the ump declares as the most likely to field the ball. Reasonable to declare shortstop was the primary on the play and 3rd was were contact was made.

1. Out, but tough call in real time from the umpire's angle. 2. She left early. 3. Obstruction on the 3rd baseman with shortstop being the protected fielder.
@JeffNies Жыл бұрын
Interference supersedes obstruction and the runner screens the shortstop on her initial move toward the batted ball, the rule violated under NFHS rules. Might be ruled differently under a different code. No matter, this runner should have already been retired on her steal attempt or leaving early. The hardest call for this crew would have been leaving early

Why was he even arguing? Interference, if you are coming out of the dugout, only reason would be to check on the base runner. Not only that, his fault for not teaching his players a proper rundown. I don't blame the girl that interfered. She obviously looked like she didn't mean to

I can't tell from the camera angle that the tag was made before the runner's foot reached the base. The second call is a miss, but you can't be looking at both the ball and the runner simultaneously. On the third call, I'd say that the runner interfered with 3b.

OK, so I have no idea what this specific call is, assume the runner leaving early, but I count every warm up throw down to second base and it is typically 3.25-4.00 seconds. This runner, if stealing, could reasonably be at 2B based on the video..? For those that were there, what is your take?

All judgement calls and in the speed of the game difficult to make. I don't see a runner on third or second on play 1, so I would have been in the B position trailing the runner. On play two, most coaches teach players to leave on the peak of the wind because it is such a split second call. Most of my calls are when girls lose balance, or are a couple feet off when it releases. Otherwise I don't make a call unless I am sure. Then on the third play I had fielder 6 as the protected player and obstruction on 5. I however give them props for talking it out. Also props to the fans. Most would be screaming how terrible the blues are no matter the call.

Lazy umpiring. The base umpire should have gone out on that rocket. To all of you who are yapping about it being a world series tournament. Anybody or their mother can slap the title "World Series" on anything. This is just a fundraiser or tune up tournament for the local travel team. Also, this is San Diego and pretty much all the fields are multi-use fields that have no fences. The only time you will see fences is on a dedicated complex devoted to softball or baseball.

When the girl started heading back to first she veered slightly towards right field and the fielder tried clearing but went inside of the ump who was pretty much standing in the middle of the play. Had she not hit the fielder, she probably would have run into the ump.

@scott mcshannon that's how a rundown works. You throw the ball then run past the runner and behind the player you threw to. There was already a player between the runner and first.

@@jeffdennis8380 He made an out call. Doesn't need to be emphatic, there is an incapacitated player laying on the ground. Another thing, obstruction is delayed dead ball. You can kill it when you have interference or as in this case when no other plays are possible and the play is over ,then one would award bases. This is an obvious obstruction and in the end the officials got it right but at the great cost of a coach being ejected. Lots to learn here.

What was the coaches legitimate complaint? Because the field Ump made the correct call on the field and then also made the correct call of obstruction.
