So what stabilises the soil to prevent it just getting washed away? Unless there were previously installed pilings to backfill against, its all a giant waste of time and effort. You might as well try to fill in the Grand Canyon with sand.

More dozer there than required under the circumstances, but good to have some capacity in reserve.

I am not an engineer but wouldn't it be a good idea to drain the water and then fill it?
