Amazing! It sounds fretless when she moves her hand, but I see frets! What is going on?

I want to thank you for showing an American this amazing instrument. A dilruba was likely used in one of my favorite American metal songs, and I had to learn more. Beautiful!

So, I’m learning the differences… there is the sitar, and surbahar, but then the esraj is basically the bowed version? The dilruba seems much more sarangi-inspired, a hybrid between sarangi and sitar. The dilruba clearly is modeled after a sarangi, but with the neck of a sitar!

The dilruba is a modified taus. The taus being attributed to guru hargobind and the dilruba to the later guru gobind singh (grandson of guru hargobind)

Side note-Dilruba is persian for heart snatcher and taus is persian for peacock (because it is shaped as a peacock completed with feathers)

Esraj is relatively newer. As its modern version of dilruba which was invented by guru gobind singh ji as a smaller and portable version of taus which was invented by guru hargobind sahib ji. Dilruba has more sympathetic strings, dilruba has 6 main strings whereas esraj has 4.
