From memory, the ground was very soft that day. Beldale flutter loved it, Shergar did not. Look at the actions of the two horses, clumps of mud flying everywhere. That's the explanation. Simple

Cavvies Clown went on to finish 2nd to Charter Party in the 1988 Gold cup. Playschool won the 1987 Hennessy Gold Cup at Newbury but was pulled up in the 1988 Gold Cup when favourite. It was believed he was doped!

Dessie hated the ground and a left handed corse. Amazing how May tried to run the legs off Dessie. Even the other jockey gave Dessie a pat . Check out his other races that he usually gave atleast 14lb to other horses and still won

He was magnificent in his pomp. I absolutely loved combs ditch. There where some fantastic chasers around the 80s.

Insane number of fallers, especially at the first fence, theres no way this could be allowed now. I grew up with red rum and L'escargot and Aldaniti, it all seemed very exciting but looking at those races now its hard to condone them and say Horses are expendable for our entertainment

I don't get why Dancing Brave is so highly rated. He never won when it counted - the Derby, this race - and nearly all the races he did win were against a handful of not very good horses

You won't see a better lineup than his Arc field. Also Pat Eddery said he was not the same horse by then.

Night Nurse was my favourite racehorse.This brings back wonderful memories.
@EddieCrАй бұрын
I always followed Night Nurse and a few others simply because the year 1974 was my all time fav bunch of Juveniles as as well as Night Nurse there was also Dramatist no less and Jer who later became a very decent staying chaser also French Pin another decent staying chaser and my alltime fav a grey named Zip Fastener who won the Victor Lu Dorum and then went on to be a very good novice chaser before injury curtailed his career in the UK and he was exported to the USA.

I think in some ways more impressive simply because he did it from the front and so far out.

What a horse Kildimo could have been if he didn't have the back problem that made him run with his tail looking rigid. Being around at the same time as Desert Orchid didn't help either !

Totally agree Arkle was to Ireland that this fella was to the English. 2 miles 3 miles or 3 miles plus Handicaps or level weights he never ducked a fight left or right handed tracks good soft or heavy ground he battled them all. People say Kauto was his superior for me NOPE closest to him more Denman who was also a warrior but unlike Dessie mainly raced his own favoured way round

The quality in depth of this field was outstanding. In recent years Nicky Henderson has had so many very good chasers like Altior, Chantry House, Jonbon, Might Bite, Shishkin and Sprinter Sacre that a horse like Remittance Man has almost been forgotten.
