Thanks for all the easy to understand instructions. It would have been helpful to give some tips on how to cut and fit the small wedges to fill the gaps which are created naturally.

In the late sixties, in my teens, I had quite a few trips around Pittwater on the Krait. Every photo and clip reminds me of those days on the deck, exploring the bays and beaches. The remaining warriors, their families, and the boat itself were great experiences, hard to forget, and fondly captured in my imagination. RIP those brave soldiers in Z-Special.

She looks prettier in real life than the photos. I had the privilege of cruising Sydney Harbour on Krait for a mates' cricket club end of season celebration, though not sure if it was '73 or 75.

I am about to begin my first wooden model ship. I have been watching a great many videos to learn as much as I can before I begin. I have especially been studying planking of the hull because it looks so tricky. I'm not satisfied with the planking I see in many of the videos I have watched. And most videos don't go into detail about how to get consistently excellent results. This video is the first one I've found that gives a full, clear, detailed explanation of how to get excellent results. Thank you so much! This is exactly the information I was looking for!

@scurly07924 жыл бұрын
You don't need to make it that complex, I've made 2 cardboard ships without any frame or weird shapes and I am 13, so you can always make simpler ones!

Jesus, Iv just started a Chinese Junk that my late father bought to do. It doesn't have great plans or instructions. And seems to have informational gaps in the detail. Iv just got to the planking stage & after watching this, I don't think Iv got it in me. Anyway, just venting. I'll give it a crack, I don't give in easily. 👍🏼🤔

Excellent video and great tutorial. As a beginner I will have to look at it a few more times. Thank you for this great instructions.

I strongly recommend that you do NOT use the crimp style plank benders. They cause damage which can be seen on the build if they're not covered by a second planking or filler. None of the proprietary benders are any use. They're a poor excuse for separating you from your hard earned. You should plank as though it is going to be a single layer. Do it right and you'll progress as a builder. Soaking or steam and setting on a jig, like a real build. Either way, to avoid buckling the plank must also be bent laterally (on a flat plane). none of the modeling tools will do that. Again it's back to the real shipyard, follow their methods and you won't go far wrong. If you've already bought such a plank bender join me in a visit to the manufacturer!!

I agree with you Dugan. For an excellent series on how it is done in real life, look up Louis Sauzedde's channel called Tips from a Shipwright. I learned so much on every aspect of wood and how it relates to boats. Louis is also such a humble, easy-to-watch person. Pure relaxation and education at the same time.

I cannot abide rude people thumbing you down and their base comments which exemplifies total ignorance. If the cap fits...shame on you! Your video was excellent and very informative. Anybody with reasonable intelligence will benefit from it but you cannot educate " PORK " Wonderful work. The planking you worked was superb. Loved your Aussie accent. You know your stuff mate and a big thank you from one who genuinely wants to learn. Pete ( I am not ashamed to be named ) Thank you mate.

This is a very poor training video. Too many times you use 10,000 words when you could use "still shots" of you holding the planking in position and working the wood around the compound/complex bends. Also, please wear longer pants, a couple times I thought your junk was going to fall out.
