OK... I really think you give yourself less credit than you should. You have made the Patina Blouse , learnt drafting for your own block pattern, you knit socks (I have NEVER knitted socks... scare me - heel turns, short rows etc) create items to sell through Etsy. So I see you as creative, entrepreneurial and skilled. Cutting into our precious fabric can feel very daunting if not completely terrifying! Our fabric is precious to us because we value it....maybe because we did pay a lot for it, but I also think (and this is just as important) that it speaks to us (it makes us smile when you look at it, it was gifted to us, we found it at an op (charity/thrift) shop and realise its a beautiful vintage fabric etc. So I'm going to try SO HARD(!) to remember this when I pull out my precious fabric next week to make my skirt for frohcktails in November! Have a great week and see you next vlog.

I’m making the six panel skirt from Sister Mag. Also making pyjama bottoms and about to learn how to change the cutter thingy on my overlocker 😱!
@knotsandneedlescrafts4 күн бұрын
Ooooh how long have you had your overlocker now? I dread having to change the blade. The skirt sounds fun! I would like some new pjs this year. ❤
@JulieH19584 күн бұрын
@@knotsandneedlescrafts it wasn’t as difficult as I thought it might be! The hardest bits were 1. loosening the screw. It’s really tight screwed in which makes sense I guess, don’t like the idea of sharp blades suddenly flying off or jamming the machine. I am recovering from bilateral carpal tunnel surgery so still not a lot of strength in these old hands! 2. Finding a video that actually showed me how to do it! I found ONE ☝️. I used an old overlocker of my mum’s for a year or so and then bought one with automatic threading of the loopers. Pricey? Yes and had to save up …worth it? Absolutely!
@knotsandneedlescrafts4 күн бұрын
@@JulieH1958 I didn’t know auto threaders on over lockers were a thing. It would make changing thread so much easier! I hope you are enjoying it. Surgery sounds rough, hope you are taking it easy and not pushing it too hard! Sounds like there should be more videos on overlocker maintenance 👩🔧

great vlog. I actually think it sounds like a worthwhile course. Ask yourself that question again when you have made you custom trousers and see if you think differently about it. And being able to adapt a. previous pattern you made is awesome. I really like the fit you achieved, so well done! You have to take the skirt off to fix this, if you were up for it. There is excess fabric in the length of the bodice. If you remove that excess, you could take in a bit at the side seams to perfect the fit. But without removing the excess length, no amount of tweaks will fix the bodice.
@knotsandneedlescraftsАй бұрын
I ended up just making it a skirt. I will eventually try a bodice that fits better but need to wait for the motivation to come back.

Take the elastic cuff off and leave them as flutter sleeves?The only other way is to make straps and attach the gathering at the shoulder into the straps. Like Victory Patterns Sophie Dress.

On lekala in addition to your measurements you can also choose options such as short torso ( waist height: high). But I generally I find the regular torso is not too long there. However not all their patterns have the same sort of fit. Throughout the years they changed their design methods several times it seems.
@knotsandneedlescraftsАй бұрын
I did not know that! Thank you! Having a recently discovered short torso has really killed my sewing mojo. I just hate having to do so many pattern edits before getting to be the fun part!

@knotsandneedlescrafts3 ай бұрын
Yes I did. It’s called a hexagon cardigan. You can find plenty of free patterns and tutorials for it. I paid for a pattern before I realised I could find it for free. 2 hexagons, fold it, seam up the back and underarms. And then few rounds for arms and add some cuffs. I made mine in Aran weight acrylic and it then got super big after washing and using the dryer. I will probably end up making the zadie due to the sheer number of makes I see on instagram 😂
