In 1975, in the middle of Carter's manufactured "gas shortage," LA ripped up the tracks that went from downtown to Venice along Venice blvd. Typical of government plans, they now put in new tracks which wouldn't have been needed if they'd just kept the old red line tracks and used them when needed. Government is the worst way to do anything.

It’s interesting to see the differing points of view nearly fours years since the start of service on the Expo line. I lived on Exposition Blvd during the early days of the project when the prospect of a light rail running through our neighborhood was hotly debated. My neighbors were solidly opposed to the idea. I bet they’re riding it today. The opposition’s argument now rings a little hollow. You can see and hear their panic-strickened concerns about change which might upset their tidy community not understanding that transit solutions were much-needed in a traffic-choked LA. And the ridership has exceeded Metro’s projections. As rail networks expands with voter-approved Measure M funds LA will mature into a world class city with higher density developments around transit projects. And you can bet the same people will be objecting to those projects as well. Change for some people is hard to take. Their lack of vision and fear of change will impede even the best projects because in our country everyone’s opinion counts. Oh well such is the price of our over indulgent form of democracy. In the meantime everyone is benefiting from the Expo line.

I don't think the device is good for the money. The scope is very limited, although capable. But the worst part is the signal generator, that is pretty much uncontrollable, doesn't have the necessary bandwidth and absolutely can't drive 50 Ohm loads. The software needs much improvement, because it doesn't allow fine tuning.

What this phrase means? Does the engine connected to the power line directly, without intermediate resistors?
@johndavies9270
@johndavies9270 4 жыл бұрын
@@Tephodon The handle shown on the control box is like a regulator - the further over it goes, it more power is put through to the motors. If you know how model trains are controlled, it works on a similar principle - a 'mat' or resistor with a sliding contact regulates the amount of current being passed through. Hadn't heard that expression before - in England we'd say she was 'working hard against the collar' - but the regulator slide would be at the limit of its travel - up against the stop block.

Bitch what the fuck why do they shut down the old freight train line it was so much better then the metro line even though the line was shut down a little bit before I was born it would still be nice having the old freight and troly car line. I wish they brought the old track back in service.

Aren't all employees supposed to be on the side of employees? Instead of jumping in on the jealousy-debate ("why should a Luas driver get more than me") - why don't we talk about fair payment for everyone? Proper health insurance, pension schemes etc. ? It's really an irony, that supermarket employees rant about the "greedy Luas driver", when they all should stand together and fight for proper wages. Employees fighting each other & being jealous of each others salaries is exactly what the "bosses" want. Guess who started this whole "making fun of the striking Luas drivers" campaign? hint: the company providing the Luas service. The bosses. I bet they're laughing their ass off right now ("hahaha, everyone hates the Luas drivers now! No one is talking about social security, fair working conditions etc. anymore. Mission accomplished")The most common argument I read is "why should a Luas driver receive XXX Euros, when a nurse only gets YYY Euros" - So what's the solution: Cut the Luas driver's pay? Or rather, raise the nurse's pay? Think about it.
@petermuller5800
@petermuller5800 8 жыл бұрын
Kevin McNamara "realistic increases" - fair enough. And I must admit, some of the jokes are even funny. But have you ever wondered who started this "let's all hate on the Luas drivers" campaign? To whose benefit is it, that everyone hates the drivers now, and no one is talking about working conditions, social security etc. ? It's a big PR strategy, directing all the hate towards the drivers. To prevent a broader discussion about improving working conditions. Not just for the Luas drivers. What if the public would suddenly be solidaric with the drivers? Imagine this: next would come the bus drivers, the nurses, or even the Garda, asking for a pay rise. Hell no! We must prevent this! let's create lots of hate against the Luas drivers, so others don't even dare to follow their example.
