I never watched this show since I was never interested in it but The character is terrifying and special and what makes him more special and terrifying than any adult family show father? It is because that People like Clay actually exist in real life... They think that god will forgive them even if they do something terrible. BECAUSE they think they are immune to sin because they're religious and do very horrible things to litteraly every single person.

Clay, for all his flaws, does love Orel. The same cannot be said for anyone else other than his dog. His abuse is a misguided attempt to prevent Orel from becoming like himself, as he hates himself more than anyone else in the show. For what it is worth, the show is a flawed and myopic view of Christianity and I cannot help but notice that Moraltons worst characteristics (Censorship, intolerance, and extremism) can also be found in the secular left. I imagine a place called Wokeville that is every bit as horrible.

Clay's the best character in this show. His flaws are true to life, he's funny, and his relationship with Orel drives much of the series.
