Hi, could you do a proper test review with data based results? It will make you stand out and grow your channel even faster vs everyone else doing the same type spec sheet reading reviews. 1. What is the idle watt power use? 2. What is the stress test power use? 3. What is the heat at Idle set at different times like 30 mins, 1hr, etc? 4. What is the heat during a 2-3 hr stress test? 5. What is throttling like and if it does throttle after a stress test? 6. Does the Enclosure properly sleep when Mac is in sleep mode? 7. How much power does it use in sleep mode? 8. Does it wake up properly or does it disconnect after several Wake / Sleep cycles on Mac? 9. Was there any disconnections during use? I know a proper review like this without all the fancy camera angles will take a few days to test properly and all KZbinrs just want a quick easy view count video that the manufacturer pays for but you could be different as you are just starting out.

To do Video editing how fast is good enough? I down a very Complex Davinci Project File with 4 time lines and is said it would take 2 days to render on my ASUS 5 year old Gaming Laptop.w/ Studio. Purcaced an M4 Mac Mini and a 2TB 4GB/s SSD enclosure. That said each Time line would be in the 20 Minute range. So in a Complex Time line what Does a Faster Drive make as to the CPU/GPU able to process the video. You really want to gain Editing Speed/Time By 2 M4 Mac Minis and use one as a Remote Render Machine and keep editing on the 1st M4 Mac while the other Renders your other Project.
@RiejWoode12 күн бұрын
Yeah the internal storage on current Mac’s are already really fast but ridiculously priced, basically extortionate. So I think the benefit of NVMe’s in fast enclosures is extra fast storage space (sometimes even slightly faster like in my case) for a fraction of what Apple sells them for. What you’re suggesting might be good for video editors that are constantly churning out videos for big channels or productions but for the average Joe like me, that isn’t necessary as after a big edit like that I’d probably take a break, grab a coffee or something and leave it to render. It’s certainly a great idea though!
@HoundDogMech11 күн бұрын
@RiejWoode Your are right about taking a coffee break. In Davinci one could Render several Time lines all at ounce Over Night if Necessary. The must for Fast external storgy would be so your Time doesn't get LAGGY. Think I'll Sub U have an awesome day.

The Apple Watch having a much higher step count is likely because your phone was also tracking steps. The Apple Watch shows you a combined step count from the Health App, so it likely is the more accurate count. If your watch doesn't detect steps, but your phone does, it counts that as a step and updates the step counter. So likely you took about 5,000 steps thereabout and your phone in your pocket detected 1800 more steps. If you sync Mi Band to Apple health, and open Apple Health, you likely would see a similar 6k number.

You just open the side door and pull the finished cartridge out. It’s really difficult to pull out and you’ll feel like you’re going to break it but it’s not going to break, or at least mine hasn’t yet (careful not to cut or hurt yourself though - speaking from experience), it just really gets stuck so wiggle it out. And then you can replace the whole cartridge with a new one.

Hi Riej, very good video, thank you for taking the time to do all this tests. I had an external SSD from Crucial just like yours, and after few months of use, it started to disconnect from my mac, and now I can't copy the files from it. When I connect it, I can see the folders, but when I want to copy something it automatically ejects... I also got an enclosure from Yottamaster with fan, but because of the noise, I took out the fan and made some improvisation for pasive cooling. Just as you say, we have this nice macs, that make no noise and we get this little enclosures and make a big noise, not ok...
@RiejWoode16 күн бұрын
Sorry about your Crucial drive giving you issues, I haven’t had any sort of issues on mine. If it’s still in warranty, you might be able to get Crucial to help check it out. And on your second point, I agree, what’s the point of having a quiet Mac to then plug in a loud SSD enclosure?
@vibler16 күн бұрын
@RiejWoode I still hope some company will find a way to make a quiet enclosure, with or without fan. I saw some brands making thunderbolt 5, but the prices on that... I am working soon on a video about Flash based NAS from Qnap, but the speeds on that is about 1500 MB, but it's still loud, it has 3 fans.

I tried out the other larger Ugreen and OWZ, but I ended up returning the Ugreen because of the annoying fan noise. The M4 has a fan, but it’s surprisingly quiet. I also have a M2 Air that’s completely fan-less, so I can’t stand anything with a fan these days. I also tested the temperature, the bigger heatsink is even better than the fan.
@RiejWoode17 күн бұрын
Yeah, the fan noice on the Ugreen was quite annoying. The OWS is like the best one to get though innit, I just couldn’t justify paying almost the same price as the SSD for it.

@RiejWoode I know it’s a bit pricey, but I’m putting my home folder there, so I need the one that can do the job. I wish I could share the pics here, I even bought another small piece of aluminum to cool it down even more. Without that, it was around 10x degrees Fahrenheit with 60 minutes into Blackmagic testing, and 9x degrees Fahrenheit with the extra aluminum.

The bottom neck of the TB4/USB4 is a 40gbps connection, unless you have the M4 Pro with a super expensive TB5 enclosure which is not worth it. I had the Mac’s home folder on the USB-C 10gbps drive with a Crucial 2TB SSD. I can’t seem to tell if it’s faster with the OWC TB4. For most office and home users, a 2.5” SSD with USB-C 10Gbps is more than sufficient. However, if you have the budget, I highly recommend the TB4 with 2TB+ NVMe. It’s a great choice!

Glad I found your video, Riej. Canon Rf35 f1.8 Macro(Just got it) is one hell of a slow AF lens. Folks, there's quick way to test if you don't believe it. AF your object about 1 meter away. Then AF something close let's say close to min focus distance 17 to 20cm. Then you realize it's VERY slow. My Tamron 45mm F1.8 VC USD is WAY faster. If you AF the general area pointing here and there, you likely won't notice the AF speed difference. Nice tips mate🍻! Btw, I have R6 II.

@RiejWoode23 күн бұрын
I personally prefer the P210R (in the video) but I think the P300R (the square one) will be really good too especially if you’re going to print more group / family photos because you can fit more in the frame. One other thing to consider is that the P300R costs a little bit more and I assume the replacement cartridges will also cost slightly more. Not significantly more though so not to worry. BTW I’ve got links to both of them and a version with a camera built in in the description, which I think is even better if you want to capture and print directly. Image quality will probably be worse than your phone though. But you’ll still be able to also use it exactly like the version without a camera.

I don't use the always on screen though, prefer to turn it on when I turn my wrist. I just bought Mi Band 9 Pro and with all things on constantly monitoring it lasts 10+ days.
