I’ve had chickens for a little over 45 years and had dogs even longer than that. Last February I got a new puppy. They (all the dogs and the puppy) have always been with the chickens never a problem. One day the chickens got spooked and took off, well that’s all the puppy needed. She started trying to play with the chickens by the time I was able to get to the chicken it was too late, the chicken was hurt and couldn’t be saved. So now I am working with the puppy around my chickens. I will try your suggestion here.

I have a 12 month old Rottweiler and a 2 year boarder collie, they get along fine. My Daisy looks like your dog. My Rottweiler is having major diarrhea this week. I have a clean fenced in yard . I clean it everyday. No dog poop hanging around. My Chickens and my dogs are obsessed over. My chickens are out with them everyday. My coop is super clean. I'm worried that my dogs have gardia or Salmonella from eating their poop. I'm worming my chickens tomorrow just in case. The chickens seem healthy no parasites. Im going to have to take her to the vet soon as she is diarrhea all night. Not dehydrated and playing all day. Im doing the pepto bismuth dose snd pro biotics today fasting them until tomorrow then going to gradually add rice and a bit of kibble tomorrow until i can afford to go to the vet . Any advice? I have a fenced in yard fresh water everyday but the dogs share a water dish with them.

I have a pit. She is on a runner and has half of the yard. I just waited until mine were full grown to let them roam. My yard is a hill. So the chickens have the upper hand with their flappy bird gliding. When she got too close to them, or went after them I said no. She responds to no very well. She was like that as a puppy.

I just found a smooth little ball of meat in one of my nesting boxes. I have about twenty hens in that yard so I don't know which one it is. It doesn't look like pus or infection. It just looks like fleshy ball. Not sure if it is just intestinal shedding from an old hen that is at the end of laying or this lash egg. Some lash eggs look like what I saw and some don't. I am doing the ACV water though. Hopefully it isn't contagious and sure death like the iNterNet says. :)

I also have a question.. I have a raccoon that just keeps out smarting me and breaking into the coop at night. I have a motion light and 4 wireless cameras watching the coop. 2 watching the outside and 2 watching the inside. I know raccoons kill and eat chickens every chance they get. Howeverrr... this raccoon always gets in there, and like just hangs out with them. They don't even freak out or care that hes in there with them. They're like friends. He doesn't bother or kill the chickens, but he does hang out and eats the feed out of their feeder. And he eats ALOT of that feed!! Basically a whole gallon container thats pretty much filled to the top. Every single night. Now, is that weird?!? Orr is this a common thing?

@OhioBoii330 when I had a raccoon problem a few years ago I didn't act on it because they were doing a similar thing. They would just come in and eat the food then leave. Well One night, there was no food left and they killed one of my chickens. Long story short don't trust the raccoon!!!!!!
@OhioBoii330
@OhioBoii330 6 ай бұрын
@pauliesbackyard7987 Hmmmm, that's very interesting to hear!! I only have 4 chickens and I would fill a gallon feeder to basically the top. I honestly thought they would just eat more because it was there. Little did I know a coon was outsmarting me and breaking in this whole time. I do live in the woods and had them for about a year. I honestly figured if something were to get them, it would have happened by now and it hasn't. Soo, I guess just as long as I keep that feeder full, I won't have any issues? However, my parents and I did become friends with a wild racoon. They feed it every night and now it'll just come hang out with us on the back deck, eat from your hand, let you pet it. Lol. I can't tell if it's the same one getting in there or not. But if it is, I think they keep it fed enough to where it's not hungry enough to kill a chicken. He must have been getting in there for a long time now because they don't even react to it being in there anymore.

I use this exact brand and the exact size bags. I started off with pellets and then I accidentally got the crumbles because I wasn't paying attention and didn't realize it until I opened the bag. Mine did eat the pellets and at first were skeptical of the crumbs. Well, I went and bought the pellets and then I just mixed both the pellets and the crumbs. They ate it and ever since then, I've just been buying both bags and mixing them together in the feed storage bin.

How long did she live can you update us? My chicken laid a lash egg I tried acv. She didn't show any signs of not eating or lathargy. Until one day she isolated her self. (About a month after the lash egg). She died the next day wouldn't eat or drink despite me feeding her water with a dropper. I decided to perform a necropsy on her. Turns out she had tumors all over her ovaries and intestinal walls. Turns out.. 35% of high egg laying chickens get ovarian cancer by age 2.5. acv might not always work. If your chicken dies, do a necropsy and you might discover lash egg is actually a sign of ovarian tumors/cancer.

@@pauliesbackyard7987 My unit started going through batteries really fast. First a couple weeks then a couple days, until it died completely . There was no debris or anything stopping the door from moving freely. The unit was defective and the support team seems to not care. Hopefully you don't have to experience this. I would throw caution to anyone thinking about purchasing this unit.

Thank you for sharing. Few weeks ago my hen laid a lash egg. In the beginning I didn’t identify who was it. After pay attention to each hen now I know who laid the lash egg. She is not laying regular egg for about 1 month. She sits in the nest but comes out without laying. She doesn’t get broody. She is the leader of the flock, usually very active but sometimes I see that she isn’t right. I started with antibiotics and ACV. I hope she gets better. 🙏🏼 like I said before, she is the leader. I cannot lose her.

Great video....thanks!!! We just started raising chickens last August and besides a few hens getting a minor respiratory infection everything has been going well. I've been learning a lot by reading books, watching KZbin and sharing experiences with FB community groups. Lots of people are so fearful/hysterical of lash eggs so I thought I should research further because I don't want to be caught without knowledge if I ever happen to get one. We give our flock ACV in their water all the time. Seems it's a good preventive for so many issues! Thanks for adding to the list of benefits. Have yourself a great day! 😁✨

Hey man great video and thanks for giving the tips and reinforcing what me and my dad did to introduce new ones to our flock. I do wanna ask about the dog who killed one of your chickens though and how did ya handle that situation? We recently had 2 chickens get killed and eaten by 2 dogs that seemed like strays, but were terrorizing the area because of a very neglectful owner. I unfortunately went outside and stumbled upon one of the dogs with my chicken in its mouth and saw it ran away with her from me as I was helpless. Either way, thanks for the tips man!

Keeping lime on the yard or areas where they roam helps. They eat piles of grass, crab grass at the top of their favorites. Vegetation will pick up the calcium and pass it along. Mixing a couple of tablespoons of hydrated lime, slaked lime or pickling lime (all the same thing) in a half gallon jar of water, well stirred and left to sit over night to settle. Then pour off or siphon off the clear water leaving the solids behind. Dump it in their water bucket with the rest of their water. They are always going to be drinking plenty of water no matter whats going on.

I have a question, when i released my 3 month old chicken some chickens pecked on it and my 3 month old chicken just ran and stayed in a corner and hid its head in a hole then all the chickens just stsrted to peck its back is it normal?
@pauliesbackyard7987
@pauliesbackyard7987 Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately chickens can be pretty brutal. It is normal to a certain extent. If it keeps happening or starts getting worse I would separate them and slowly re introduce them. It should get better as the chickens establish a pecking order and your chicken grows.

Thanks for this! I just found a lash egg and I can't tell which chicken it is. None of them are showing any sign of illness and while I can narrow it down to about 4 chickens because of where it was laid, I still can't tell as they all look happy and are actively scratching around the garden. I have ACV so off to try this out. Fingers crossed that I have the same success as you!

Had the exact same experience, from thinking it was a calcium deficiency months ago to the past few days of thinking she was egg bound, up until the unusual small mass showed up in the stool, I also touched it lol. I also found the internets prognosis nothing but grim. And so if all is to be lost, then we will do our very best and fight it, for “Mean Green!” (Her name) and in hopes to save others in the future.
