I was always nervous about the O line and unfortunately my fears were realised in that game. How they play the rest of the season will determine where the Seahawks finish. On a positive I do see them improving as the season progresses and they start to gel as a unit, let's be honest they can't get any worse! Great show guy's, keep up the good work.

After seeing how this coaching staff has performed in the first two pre-season games it makes me so intrigued for the start of the season and I've not felt this way in a very long time. I can't wait to see how they perform on game day and I can already see the Seahawks are on the right trajectory and the only real weakness currently is the O line. If Scott Huff can get this unit to gel and perform to an average level it could make for a great first season for Macdonald. But I also do believe we need to temper the ceiling for the team. If they make the playoffs this season that will be an amazing start for Macdonald but if things don't click right away or injuries hit it could possibly end in a losing season. With what we have seen to date I would be very surprised if they finished with less than 7 wins at worst. So impatient for the season to start and see where this journey takes us!

Greetings chaps! Love the podcast as always. I’m thinking this team is on the verge of making a serious run. Lots of positives in the second game. Howell looks solid. Hall, Knight, Morris, Barner, Haynes and Winston are all meeting or exceeding expectations for me at this point. Gonna find a way to spread the news about your podcast over here, but alas I’m old and semi-technologically challenged. But I will try? Hey, how can one purchase that Union Jack style Seahawk flag in your background? Never seen one before and I really like it. Thanks!

I remember Norm Johnson as well. One of the better place kickers the Seahawks have had. I’m so old that I remember their first place kicker, Effren Herrera. Herrera was a little guy and former soccer player. He was renowned among Seahawks fans in the early years because he was part of a trick play the Seahawks would call on occasion, when they would fake the field goal kick, and the holder would pick up the ball and then throw a pass to Herrera who would be running down the sideline. I think it resulted in a touchdown that led to a win against the Falcons. It worked well until the other teams started looking for it.

Thanks, Mitch. I’ve been a fan of the Seahawks since their inception in 1976, when they played in the infamous Kingdome. They weren’t very good for the first couple of years, but they sold out every game and Hawk fans set records for crowd noise, as the sound would reverberate off the roof of the dome. And their left handed quarterback, Jim Zorn, was flinging passes to Hall of Fame receiver, Steve Largent, and to Steve Raible - now the long time play by play sportscaster of the Seahawks games on KIRO radio.

@@geoffreyjones359 Hi Geoffrey, I remember the Kingdome and one of my fondest memories was seeing the Seahawks beat the Broncos who were divisional rivals at that time as the AFC West was our division back then and as the crowd left to echos of Elway who was the QB of the Broncos at that time, taunting Elway who was not much liked by most Seahawk fans. Which is not unusual for good players to be hated by the opposition fans. Watching the Mariners play in the Kingdome was weird so was really nice to watch the Mariners play at their very own 'ball park' when I was last in Seattle and Lumen Field the new at that time stadium for the Seahawks

@@garryswain2522 Hi Garry: I remember those few wins that the Seahawks had against Denver and John Elway and we savored each one, as they were so few and far between. Brian “The Boz” Bosworth called him “Mr. Ed” because of Elway’s big teeth, but unfortunately The Boz turned out to be all talk and self promotion and was a bust as an NFL linebacker. The most satisfying win that i remember against the Broncos and Elway was in 1997 at Mile High Stadium when the Seahawks rallied from a 20-3 deficit at halftime and scored 3 touchdowns in the 4th quarter to win 31-27. It was one of my all time favorite Seahawks victories because they came back to win at Mile High stadium against their nemesis, John Elway.

Good show, gentlemen. Most of us long time Seahawks fans are pleased but very cautiously optimistic with the overall performance of the team in the first preseason game - especially in the first half when some of the defensive starters we’re playing, and dominating the Chargers. Woolen, Reed, Mafe and Derick Hall looked very good in their brief stints. And Byron Murphy looked dominant in his time on the field. It’s premature to crown him as the defensive rookie of the year, but given the glimpses we’ve seen so far, Murphy looks like the steal of the first round of the NFL draft - just as Witherspoon was the steal of the first round from 2023. It would not surprise me to find that Witherspoon and Murphy become perennial All Pros for the next decade. The biggest question remaining to be answered is whether we can expect an improvement in the offensive line. Oluwatimi was clearly beaten and overwhelmed on the fourth and goal play from the two and it’s easy to see now why the Seahawks pursued Connor Williams to take over as the starting center. We’ll have to wait to see if Williams can return to his level of performance from last year before he blew out his knee. And it’s a huge question mark as to whether Abe Lucas can return from the PUP list. But the success or failure of the offensive line this season still remains to be seen, depending on whether or not their two best linemen can return to play by the first week of September.
@Mitch12Talk
@Mitch12Talk Ай бұрын
Perennial all pros for the next decade... blimey that is some optimism that I hope comes true! I think the middle of our O line looks very good and very deep, that only improves with Connor Williams. The Bookends were poor but we have Abe, Cross and Fant to add to that. O line and D line have got to prove it to us but honestly the personel is there, the depth is there.. if the coaching and scheme going to fit the personel? thats the bit we're going to find out! Thanks so much for your comment and for watching our show! See you again soon

The likely addition of Connor Williams who is about to sign with Seattle this week will immediately bolster the offensive line. He was playing at an all pro level at the end of last season and his presence in the interior of the line will upgrade the pass and the run game. Laken Tomlinson played at his best in the past when he was paired next to a good center - and even if a rookie or second year player such as Haynes or Bradford ends up starting at right guard, playing next to a quality center like Williams will help stabilize the interior line play.
@geoffreyjones359
@geoffreyjones359 Ай бұрын
Hi guys: Big news! It sounds like the Seahawks are about to announce the signing of Connor Williams - one of the best centers in the NFL. Sounds like they will sign him to a multi year deal. If he’s physically ready to play right away, that would really shake up the starting five of the Seahawk’s offensive line. I assume they will put Williams as the starter at center, and then it’s question of whether Oluwatimi is able to play at guard, or whether he’s relegated to the bench. It also means that Nick Harris will be released. I would project the starting five of the offensive line to be Cross at left tackle, Tomlinson at left guard, Williams at center, either Bradford or Haynes or Curtis at right guard and Lucas at right tackle - if he’s off the PUP list and able to play, or George Fant at right tackle.
@garryswain2522
@garryswain2522 Ай бұрын
I think how the O line performs will have a huge say where the team finishes this season. I hope Scoff Huff can mould this unit so that we get at least some consistency which has been severely lacking unless you count inconsistency as consistence! The D line depth looks the best the Seahawks have had in years and we know Mike wants to build a run wall and this unit is more than capable of forming that wall, what a foundation to build your defense on.
@geoffreyjones359
@geoffreyjones359 Ай бұрын
With regard to the ESPN depth chart for the offensive line: Oluwatimi will start at center- unless the Seahawks are able to sign free agent Connor Williams. The smart money is betting that Christian Haynes will start as a rookie at right guard and the team has their fingers crossed that Anthony Lucas will be off the PUP list by then, but if not it will be George Fant at right tackle. They think highly of Michael Jerrell as having the talent to be a starting tackle in the NFL some day. But they don’t want to start two rookies on a patchwork offensive line and Jerrell will have to wait for his chance in another year.

Excellent podcast and intelligent discussion about the Seahawks from a couple of Brits. Well done. I enjoyed it very much. The Seahawks defensive line has the most talent and depth that it has had since 2014. Two years ago, Pete Carroll said that he needed to rebuild the front seven of his defense. Two years into the rebuild, the defensive front is now extremely capable and deep enough that they should be able to maintain constant pressure on the quarterback with a 7 man rotation of defensive tackles and ends and edge rushers. Unfortunately, Pete didn’t survive to see the fruits of his efforts on the front line and MacDonald has inherited one of the best young defensive lines in the NFC. However, although the the inside linebackers from 2022 have also been replaced now (e.g. Cody Barton and Jordyn Brooks and Bobby Wagner) I don’t know that Dodson and Baker (and the inexperienced rookie, Tyrice Knight) are going to be significantly better. MacDonald is supposed to be a linebacker guru so I hope he can work his magic on a unit that - on paper at least - appears to be the weakest position on the team. I look forward to hearing more from you guys over the course of what should be an interesting season.

Really enjoy the crossover shows and the Seahawks community seem to really be a great bunch of contributors who are happy to appear on one another's shows, no egos which is great. I don't really understand why a section of the Hawk fanbase would like to move on from DK, it just makes no sense to me. He is a great athlete who has yet to be used in the right way or system. If Ryan Grubb's the OC who can tap into that potential we will see what a major asset DK is. I believe Grubb can be that OC, but it may take a season before he is able to fully tap into the potential. It will also be interesting to see how this coaching staff deal with any of DK's temperament issues if they surface. Personally I don't think this was something Pete dealt with particularly well with players in the recent past. The Adams saga around the response to a reporter's comments I think was a really good example of how not to do this and I do wonder if that was part of the reason why it appeared not all players were brought into Pete's philosophy and may have caused division in the locker room. As for Geno, yes he is not a top tier QB but he defiently has the tools to take a team to a Super Bowl. Again I look at the previous OC and did they get the best from Geno? I think we all agree they did not. So we will see what happens this year, I'm hoping for a more balanced scheme which at the same time does stretch the field and keep opponents off balance. It's been a very long time since I felt opponents were concerned about the Hawks offense despite the weapons we have. Let's see how Grubb uses those weapons and I think we may have to be patient as offense always takes longer to bed in and it is Grubbs first year in the NFL so a big step up. I do have confidence that he can step up, just think in may take a season.

@@Josh_12Talk Totally agree with the poor tackling technique in the NFL compared to rugby. What blows my mind is that the NFL is a game of inches, yet the number of players who come flying in with a big hit no arms tackle so if the offensive player does not go down he keeps gaining ground. Just wrap him up and stop forward progress, I thought that was the idea of defense, stop the opposition gaining 10 yards? We all love a big hit but wrap the player up as well! That's my little rant 😊
